I am amazed at how many supposed football experts here think that OTA's are anything more than rookies checking in and eyeballs on any changes or new systems

where anyone is on the depth chart now is beyond meaningless

Agreed. This new coaching staff is definitely turning every stone to try to make improvements. Truly glad they are making the effort at our interior DT position.

Believe the report about Toia or not, there is some factual information there about Mazi. He has been horrific as a player and internal run defense has been a huge achilles heel for the Cowboys.

Not sure he can do it but if Toia can simply eat up two blockers without getting blown back, he will be a huge positive for the team and should supplant Mazi.

But one of them said they talked with DL Coach Whitecotton and he said they plan on a steady rotation along the D line. So of course he will see some reps with the first team. Mazi will have first team reps. Osa and Thomas will have first team reps at the three tech.
Look for Fowler, Kneeland, Turner, EE rookie de to get some first team reps as well.

I think they are counting on the 1st rounder Mazi....a 7th rounder is just bonus if he works out. I don't think they had that intention before the season started.

I'm assuming on some downs that we will use Mazi and another side of beef as the first-team DTs. Run stopping isn't Odig's strength at less than 290 pounds and same for Solomon Thomas.

I guess it depends on what you define as a decent starter.

A nominal starter that gets 40% of the snaps and plays the run well? I think that's doable

A legit 3 down starter that is in on and impactfull in 60% to 70% of snaps? I don't see it
