Rookie DT Jay Toia getting 1st team reps during OTAs

Rookie DT Jay Toia has that natural mean look.

Mazi Smith was quoted as saying that he hated football but liked hitting people. I believe that 100%. The position he plays isn’t so much about HITTING people as it is about STOPPING people. Toia seems to have a better understanding of the DT position.

To be fair, he said that in jest. But you'd need a sense of humor to realize that.

Does this mean Mazi Smith might be getting replaced as the starting interior run-stuffing DT?

This is the kinda like Hoffman/Beebe getting snaps at center means that Tyler Smith is the starting LT, Tyler Booker may be a just and Terrence Steele is being cut.

It’s just OTAs.

Regardless of his intent when he said it, his play so far seems to vindicate it. He makes the same mistakes over and over and always seems to end up on the ground. Dallas needs to cut ties with him already, he’s had more than his share of opportunities.

...I think the first line is red flag. Why even be in the sport if you hate it? Just saying....

Good point on Toia, I think he might be starting Vs Eagles... ;).

Not the point. Throwing late rounders at any position is not making an effort to better that position.
There are only so many draft picks available. Cowboys had to decide which position group to address first in each round pending on which players were available. For 7th round draft picks, both Toia and Akingbesote bring pretty good ability. All you have to do is study their college tapes. To say the Cowboys are not serious about addressing the DT/NT position simply because they didn't draft a DT/NT in the first 3 rounds is not only disingenuous but also lazy.

Yes, and they almost always pick the wrong one.

It's the opposite. Saying they addressed the position w/ a 7th rounder is not only lazy, it's out and out lying. And far worse than disengenuous, it's just not very bright.

Did we really have to turn to childish insults here? Why?
