Theyre “turning every stone” because they see nothing but slop at a critical positionAgreed. This new coaching staff is definitely turning every stone to try to make improvements. Truly glad they are making the effort at our interior DT position.
To be fair, he said that in jest. But you'd need a sense of humor to realize that.Mazi Smith was quoted as saying that he hated football but liked hitting people. I believe that 100%. The position he plays isn’t so much about HITTING people as it is about STOPPING people. Toia seems to have a better understanding of the DT position.
Here is hoping he is at least 1/2 of what Wilfork was.He reminds me of Vince Wilfork.
Just bigger, meaner, faster, and can read War and Peace in 6 minutes. He reminds me of Vince Wilfork.
He looks high there.Rookie DT Jay Toia has that natural mean look.

Making an effort? 7th round picks are not making an effort.Agreed. This new coaching staff is definitely turning every stone to try to make improvements. Truly glad they are making the effort at our interior DT position.
Not allowed to as we spent a 1st round pick on Mazi, Jerry needs to milk that out of himDoes this mean " finally some serious competition " at this starting 1 tech role ..?
The Coogie Woogie Boogie Boy from Company C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Not allowed to as we spent a 1st round pick on Mazi, Jerry needs to milk that out of him
maybe it was humor or maybe it was trueTo be fair, he said that in jest. But you'd need a sense of humor to realize that.
Look at their tapes. Rookie NTs look like they should have been drafted earlier.Making an effort? 7th round picks are not making an effort.
Does this mean Mazi Smith might be getting replaced as the starting interior run-stuffing DT?
Regardless of his intent when he said it, his play so far seems to vindicate it. He makes the same mistakes over and over and always seems to end up on the ground. Dallas needs to cut ties with him already, he’s had more than his share of opportunities. To be fair, he said that in jest. But you'd need a sense of humor to realize that.
...I think the first line is red flag. Why even be in the sport if you hate it? Just saying....Mazi Smith was quoted as saying that he hated football but liked hitting people. I believe that 100%. The position he plays isn’t so much about HITTING people as it is about STOPPING people. Toia seems to have a better understanding of the DT position.
Not the point. Throwing late rounders at any position is not making an effort to better that position.Look at their tapes. Rookie NTs look like they should have been drafted earlier.
There are only so many draft picks available. Cowboys had to decide which position group to address first in each round pending on which players were available. For 7th round draft picks, both Toia and Akingbesote bring pretty good ability. All you have to do is study their college tapes. To say the Cowboys are not serious about addressing the DT/NT position simply because they didn't draft a DT/NT in the first 3 rounds is not only disingenuous but also lazy. Not the point. Yes, and they almost always pick the wrong one. There are only so many draft picks available.
