GLENDALE, Ariz. -- It certainly appears that the Dallas Cowboys drafted a playmaker in sixth-round pick DeVonte Holloman.

Holloman, an outside linebacker who spent his first three seasons at South Carolina as a safety, has two interceptions in three preseason games. Both of the picks were remarkably athletic plays, too.

Holloman’s diving grab of a Drew Stanton pass across the middle at the goal line was one of the Cowboys’ few highlights in Saturday’s 12-7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Holloman made a juggling catch on a pass behind him and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown in the Hall of Fame Game.

“We saw that in college coming out,” head coach Jason Garrett said of Holloman, who had seven career interceptions at South Carolina. “We saw that really throughout [offseason training activities] and training camp

“It just seems like he comes up at the right time,” owner/general manager Jerry Jones said of Holloman’s knack for forcing turnovers. “He looks like he’s thinking about and expecting to make a play like that. I’m really impressed with him.”

Lock for the 53.

Holloman is a lock for the 53, but before getting carried away, remember that is first interception came when he was in the wrong place at the right time, and the one on Saturday was a great catch, but an absolutely terrible decision and pass by the QB. The kind of gift he isn't likely to see against starting quarterbacks. Good things do tend to happen when you have players that are always around the ball, and for that I think he has done a great job, but let's keep the interceptions in perspective and not wonder what happened to change him once the regular season started.

For years we've seen guys have balls hit them in the hands and not make the catch.
This kid is making plays, he needs to make the 53.
