I definitely feel they need a new system.

Here is my idea. I know it is a bit extreme, but I just don't think too highly of rookies, since they have done absolutely nothing in the NFL.

All rookies sign a 3 year contract. The first year, all rookies receive the league minimum as their base salary. They get a 25% raise for their second season, and then another 25% raise for their third season.

Now, we all know the #1 pick deserves more money than a 7th rounder or even a UDFA. So this is where the signing bonus comes in.

#1 overall pick gets a $1,000,000 signing bonus.

The rest of the First Round starts at $950,000 and decreases by $1,000 until the end of the round

Second Round starts at $850,000 and decreases till the end of the round.

Third round starts at $750,000

Fourth round starts at $550,000

Fifth round starts at $450,000

Sixth round starts at $350,000

Seventh round starts at $250,000

UDFA all receive $10,000

Once the 3 year deal is over, the player becomes a UFA.

One rule I would like to see implemented is that the drafting team has the opportunity to pay the player more than any other suitor....similar to the Bird Rule in the NBA. It would also help if they allowed for only a 75% cap hit per player that stays with his original team, than a 100% cap hit....You would still have free agency, but the best players would most likely stay with the team that drafted them.....and that is better for the league and the fans of that team.

So let the bashing of my system begin................
