He was a fine charactor actor. Loved him as Burt Reynolds best friend in Hooper. He did so many bit roles early - but he was always just what the director wanted. That got him a lot of work

One bad thing about getting older is how many of these things you see as time goes by.

He was a great character actor even before he co-starred in "Dukes".

He was in just about every TV western that ever was including...
-"Have Gun Will Travel"
-"Gunsmoke"
-"Bonanza"
-"The Rifleman"

He was in 3 "Twilight Zone Episodes" (one of which was western themed along with Lee Marvin, Strother Martin & Lee Van Cleef).

He also starred in one of the best-worst horror films ever made in "The Attack of the Killer Shrews".

Sad to hear of this... but what a great career.

Now I'm gonna look for those 3 twilight zone episodes.

Some great actors were in twilight zone episodes.

It's funny, even then he was cast as "hill-billyish" character, with the other 2 TZ episodes having that sort of theme to them.

IMO, the western-themed one with the actors I mentioned in the previous post is one of the very best in the entire run of the TZ. It's one where the combination of great character actors, combined with a top-flight script created one heck of a 1/2 hour of television.
