WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) -- Former NFL cornerback Derek Ross was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana after a traffic stop Friday.
The 25-year-old Ross, who was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, was in a car with another man when police stopped the rented Chevrolet Impala on Interstate 85 near the South Carolina-Georgia border, according to Capt. Donnie Fricks of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
Officers smelled and saw marijuana on the console, and a search found 25 pounds of marijuana, police said.
Ross, of Rock Hill, also played for Atlanta and Minnesota. He was selected in the third round by the Cowboys out of Ohio State. The Cowboys released him late in the 2003 season.
Dalmicos Hemphill, 24, also of Rock Hill, has been charged with trafficking marijuana.

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Police are seeking former Husker running back Lawrence Phillips in connection with a domestic-violence case. They say he attacked his girlfriend twice, once choking her into unconsciousness.
San Diego police said the 28-year-old woman was choked on Aug. 2 at her San Diego home. Another assault took place 11 days later, police said, when Phillips confronted the woman at a party.
In both cases he left the scene before officers could arrest him, police said.
A $1,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his whereabouts.
The former NFL running back is also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant from Los Angeles for an unrelated domestic-violence case, police said Thursday.
Phillips has indicated he won't surrender peacefully, Lt. Kathy Healey of the San Diego Police Department said.
The former University of Nebraska star was drafted sixth overall in 1996 by the St. Louis Rams.
At Nebraska, he pleaded no contest to the 1995 assault of a former girlfriend and was sentenced to one year's probation. While on probation he was arrested for drunken driving in California, which led to a 23-day jail sentence.
He was released for insubordination in 1997 after 25 games with the Rams.
Phillips signed with the Miami Dolphins later in the 1997 season, but was released after pleading no contest to hitting a woman in a nightclub.
He was the top offensive player in NFL Europe in 1999 after setting league records for rushing and touchdowns with the Barcelona Dragons. He signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 1999, but was released for missing a practice. He later played in the Canadian Football League.
Phillips has friends and relatives in San Diego, according to police Sgt. Dan Cerar.
