Why is that? What have they said that was so wrong in the past?
They said Lve was a medical red flag player who will slide dramatically. As it turned out, not 1 team gave him a failing grade and multiple teams were high on him in rd 1.

Rousseau Voted Most Overrated Prospect
Updated March 11, 2021

With every NFL draft, there are some prospects who receive a lot of media accolades but who NFL scouts are not nearly as high on. That can lead to some "surprising" draft-day slides for the media and fans that aren't actually surprising at all to NFL teams. BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1 recently surveyed a number of team sources as to who they believed was the most over-rated/over-hyped prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft. The overwhelming reponse returned was that Miami defensive end Gregory Rousseau has a much higher profile with public than with teams.

After missing 2018 with an ankle injury, Rousseau broke out in 2019 with 15.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, 19.5 tackles for a loss and 54 tackles. Beyond that production, Rousseau has good size at 6-foot-7, 265 pounds, so teams were eager to see him in 2020, but Rousseau decided to sit out the season. That has left teams having to pore over his 2019 tape very closely.

"If you really watch [Rousseau] and focus in on him, he is not a fast or explosive pass rusher," said an area scout. "He is long, but not physical and the sack total is misleading. He will have to become a power player, and it might take a year or two for that to happen, if it ever does."

Other evaluators mentioned Rousseau not being fast, explosive, or physical as well. They also cited him being a 1-year wonder, and sitting out the 2020 season did nothing to assuage concerns the 2019 season could have been a flash in the pan. Another area scout said their team had a third-round grade on Rousseau. Despite Rousseau being viewed as overrated, all of the team sources thought he would be an early-rounder and likely to go in the mid- to late portion of the opening night of the 2021 NFL Draft. This is considered a weak class for defensive line talent, which is always a need around the league, so Rousseau faces less first-round competition compared to a typical year.

Other prospects who received votes for being the most overrated included Northwestern offensive lineman Rashawn Slater, Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain and Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons.

A couple of team sources said they had Surtain graded as a late first-rounder and felt that is where he belongs because he is not a twitchy corner with sudden movement skills. They believe he will need to be protected and not matched up against certain NFL receivers. Thereby, they think he is a reach as a pick in the top half of the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. They have Virginia Tech's Caleb Farley and South Carolina's Jaycee Horn graded over Surtain.

As reported in the Hot Press in February, sources from multiple teams say Parsons is getting hurt significantly for character concerns. Some sources call Parsons underwhelming as a player. Those sources believe Parsons is a "clean air" linebacker who is not real physical in terms of taking on blocks and doesn't play downhill.

A few team sources said they had a second-round grade on Slater because they don't see him as a tackle in the NFL. "The media was talking up his tape against Chase Young, but it was not as impressive as I expected," said an area scout. "We see [Slater] as a guard and have him in Round 2."

While Rousseau, Slater, Surtain and Parsons received are perceived as overrated by sources around the league, it only takes one team to fall in love. All four of these prospects are stil expected to be selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft despite some teams thinking they are overhyped player.

I thought I was the only one that thought Slater vs Young got overhyped. Thought I was missing something.

Id agree on Surtain and Gregory. I like them both as prospects, just not at 10.

I feel the same way about this entire draft. I feel like this year every player has higher risk and lower reward than in any draft I can recall. Perhaps it's the fact that the season was messed up with COVID. I am feeling more like the Cowboys should trade their pick away for an established player they know is a good player.

How do you know multiple teams were high on him? And he was a medical red flag as we see now

I see we are in the paralysis by analysis phase predraft. In a normal year if you get past the first couple picks they have warts. This year they all do. Bottom line is drafting top 10 should be a plug and play starter I think Slater fits that bill somewhere on the OLine.

I remember one ex scout used to come out with information about a month before the draft basically ripping every prospect. He got in trouble for saying Cam Newton was arrogant and I think he retired. For the most part his inside information was spot on for players. I forgot his name though.

So we can’t say Cam is arrogant?

I don't remember. However I know McGinn used to do alot of that with unnanmed scouts
Cavanaugh (on theFan) read off some unnamed scout takes on some of the players in the top ten area yesterday (3/11). So someone must be still putting out one of those. I need to go back and see if I can find it he probably said where it came from.

Nolan Nawrocki. He succeeded the late Joel Buchsbaum as draft guru for Pro Football Weekly. Had very good info and Joel's scouting contacts. He came under fire for some of his character assessments of QB's, most notably Cam Newton. Was more or less excommunicated. He finally landed in the Raiders front office.

Found it, McGinn still does at the Athletic

Anyone got athletic access?

Mac Jones? Justin Fields? Ja'Marr Chase? Scouts’ takes on 30 top offensive players in 2021 NFL Draft – The Athletic

Patrick Surtain? Pete Werner? Azeez Ojulari? Scouts’ takes on 30 top defensive players in 2021 NFL Draft – The Athletic

Thanks brother. People seem to dwell on what he would say negative about players but his player evaluations were spot on. He also said Cam was clearly the most athletic and talented player in that draft. A draft that gave us Tyron Smith as well as JJ Watt, AJ Green, Quinn, Von Miller, ect.......

Martin was a better college player.

Slater at 10 is just a questionable pick for so many reasons.

Slater gave up 5 pressures on 355 rushes in '19. I couldn't find Martin's pressure numbers at ND, but Slater gave up less pressure by percentage than Penei Sewell did that year (pretty much identical rates actually - 5 pressure on 355 snaps vs 7 pressures on 491 snaps). I think we'd agree that Sewell was an OK college player. And PFF graded out Slater's run blocking even higher than his pass pro.

I get it, you don't want to invest more in the OL, but you can evaluate a player as being good without wanting your team to pick him. I have no interest in Dallas picking Ja'Marr Chase, but I can still say that Chase is going to be a total stud.

It's gonna be JOK. Book it.

He can fill the Leo role and be the third safety in a 4-2-5 look. He's one of, if not the most disruptive force in the draft. He's definitely the most dynamic.

Some people are gonna need kleenex and pampers, but that who I think it's gonna be.
