OFFENSE:

QuarterBack:
Drew Bledsoe -
No question about it, Bledsoe will be our starter this year and probably next year. this guy is a gunslinger and has veteran experience. his downside is that he hold on to the ball a little bit to long (sometimes this helps) usually it leads to fumbles and sacks.
Drew Henson - With what he is doing in NFLE this guy has clinched the #2 spot at QB (Disregarding any FA signings). He has shown that he can play in all-weather situations throwing the ball well in the rain. He has shown that with a depleted WR corpse he can still get it done. Downside is that he has only started 1 NFL game and was pulled at 1/2 and that his only success is in NFLE and not in the NFL.
Tony Romo - he is the #3 guy, theres not much i can say about him. i dont see him getting in the game just because henson has impressed us all in NFLE. downside is that he has no experience and will not amount to much, IMO, Henson for the win.
RunningBack:
Julius Jones -
He has proven that he can be an elite back and has had his share of flashes involving big games on Thanksgiving vs. Bears (149 yards) Monday Night vs. Seattle (198 yards) etc. he has also shown that he can be a 25+ carry back. he is projected to be the starter. we all know his big issue is staying healthy, he missed half the season in his rookie year and 4 games last year. when this guys on the field he is a terror but its hard to get him out there.
Marion Barber III - He will be our #2 and get quite a bit of playing especially if JJ gets hurt. last year he filled in nicely when JJ went down with his ankle injury and he is definately going to get his share of the load. his downside is that he isnt the type of athlete to be the #1 back and carry the load, he will be a nice compliment for JJ.
Tyson Thompson (ST) - This guy is a speed demon and will be a good change of pace back, he will not see to many carries but will surely be a good special teams threat and will find a way to utalize his speed. his downside is that he is not much of a complete RB and relies to much on his speed.
Wide Receiver:
Terrell Owens - Could be the best WR in the NFL, this guy can do it all, you will see him run a quick slant one play and the next he will be running a fade route, he will be making plays all over the field and be in double coverage, which will free up our other threats. Downside is his off the field issues . . .
Terry Glenn - Finally he gets to be what he is, a number 2 WR. this guy last year when he was in double coverage ALL DAY LONG had 1100+ yards as the #1. Now with TO here i see him exploding and opening up in 1 on 1 coverage down field all day long. Downside is really only his age, i see him being possibly the best #2 WR in the NFL . . .
Patrick Crayton (ST) - Proved to be fairly solid so far in dallas, he will be the #3 WR no question about it. He runs very clean routes, has good hands and acceptable speed, see him getting in a little bit and making a few nice grabs. he is also tough to tackle in open field. hopefully this year he wont have to do all to much on special teams with a few key additions taking those jobs from him. his downside is that he is not a top notch WR but as the #3 this is not necissary.
*Skyler Green (ST) - this is the guy that is taking craytons jobs on special teams. ive never seen him play but from watching his highlight tape today i noticed that he is 1 of the quickest and fastest players ive seen, he will be a solid return man and a questionable WR. Downside is that hes a a rookie so i dont know how good he will be in the NFL, he also is more of a return man than a WR.
Terrance Copper (ST) - this guy is not much of a WR and that is why hes #5. but thats not why hes on the roster, he is here to play special teams. he has proven to be a good special teamer and since thats his role on the team i like him.
Tight End:
Jason Witten - Pro-Bowler, Top TE in the league. He is a favorite target of Drew Bledsoe and takes a lot of pressure off of our wide recievers, he is a solid blocker but has room to improve.
*Anthony Fasano - He will see the field a lot more than people think, this guy will play opposite of Witten in our double TE sets and from what ive heard he is a Witten Clone. he is an amazing blocker but lacks a little bit as a receiver.
Ryan Hannam - He was brought in to be a block specialist at TE and to replace Dan Campbell (30) as a younger version of him (26). Fasano is going to start over him but he will still get in as a lead blocker and on running situations. he is not much of a receiver.
Offensive Tackle:
Flozell Adams - He is coming off of a season ending injury but is still an upgrade from what we had last year. he will anchor this offensive line this year and hopefully come back as strong as he was before. his downside is that he just came off of an injury.
Jason Fabini - he is definately an upgrade over Petitti, this guy is pretty consistant and stays healthy (last year he did have a season ending injury, but before that he was fine). Basically he isnt top quality but still better than what we had before.
Marc Culombo - 1st round pick potential, you never know . . .
Rob Petitti - coming off of a rough rookie season - started 16 games against some of the best DE's in the NFL. he now has 1 year of experience under his belt and is bette know than he was then, he will be a solid back-up. he was a 6th round pick . . .
*Pat Mcquistan - a 6th round draft pick, hopefully he will prove to be better than Petitti was . . .
Offensive Guard:
Marco Riviera - 2 years off of his back injury now, he should be back to 100% or close to it. he is going to have to prove that he can still ball, but he will definately be the starting guard here. Downside is that after a big injury like his most athletes dont return to form again, especially at that age.
Kyle Kosier - at the moment kosier is the starter and he is being paid like one, too. a lot of detroit fans say that he wasnt anything special, but obviously BP and JJ see something in him or they wouldnt have signed him.
Stephen Peterman - you cant rule him out yet . . . he is just going to be a back-up and will hopefully prove to be pretty solid here.
Andre Gurode - here we have a hybrid C/G who will play backup center behind al johnson and backup kosier most likely, hopefully he has improved over last season since he was inconsistant.
Offensive Center:
Al Johnson - started last year and will hopefully be challenged for the spot this year. he wasnt good but he has packed on 15 lbs of muscle so that may help him.
Andre Gurode - again a G/C and he will hopefully challenge Johnson for the starting job. he is very inconsistant.
*E.J. Whitley - again a player i do not know much about, a 7th round draft pick and a 3rd stringer . . .

DEFENSE:

Free Safety:
*Pat Watkins (WR) -
a steal in the 5th round, was expected to go in the 2-3rd but dropped to us in the 5th. he is huge 6'5 and has a 41" vertical, he is going to be a great compliment to R. Williams since hes a ball hawk. he is scrawny for his freakishly tall frame and is not much of a tackler, hopefully he can bulk up to prevent this issue.
Marcus Coleman - he was a good signing, he provides veteran presence and assurance. Pat Watkins will learn a lot from him and in case of injury we have a proven veteran. he is getting old and is on the downside of his career, dont expect him to amaze you when he gets on the field.
Strong Safety:
Roy Williams - Could be the best SS in the NFL. we all know what he does, big hits, turnovers, above average coverage for a SS and can play along the LOS even more than before now that we have pat watkins and marcus coleman a huge upgrade over keith davis.
Keith Davis - now that Coleman and Watkins are here he is going to be 100% special teams. this guy will be a back-up to roy williams but is on the roster to create havoc on special teams. he is a head hunter and could step up to be a big leader next year.
Willie Pile (FS) - might stay here just because he is versatile . . .
Corner Back:
Terrance Newman (ST) -
he is a top10 shutdown corner in the NFL. definately the #1 CB on this team and a future pro bowler.
Aaron Glenn - Awesome ball player, makes plays all over the field and would have been a pro bowler if it wasnt for his injury. he will be the NB and will continue to make plays.
Anthony Henry - Last year he was a very strong nickel back. this year he will be the #2 CB lining up opposite of T. Newman (thanks emmittnroy).
Jacques Reeves - last year we didnt see A LOT of him, but he was there. this guy isnt amazing or anything but will be a good #4 CB and i hope to see a bit of him throughout the season.
Outside Linebacker:
Demarcus Ware - he proved that he is going to be here in the future recording 8 sacks in his rookie season. now that he has had 1 season at OLB under his belt, 1 season of the 3-4, another playmaker opposite of him and bulked up he could become a pro-bowl caliber player. he is going to have a great season.
*Bobby Carpenter - a great pick, the guy that we wanted and he fits the position well. he has room to bulk up and probably will, he has played LB throughout his college career and he is a monster with a "nonstop motor". he will be a great compliment to not only ware but also the rest of our defense.
Al Singleton - this guy is small but solid, he can stop the run but can not rush the passer which is what bobby carpenter can do better than he can (atleast we hope so). singleton will bring a strong leadership/veteran presence to the table and probably be replaced by Carpenter before the season starts.
Inside Linebacker:
Akin Ayodele -
in jacksonville he was the first ever player to record 4 100 tackle season in a row. he can make plays from anywhere on the field but is a converted OLB-ILB. he is learning the scheme and working well with bradie james, he says. the thing people are overlooking is his leadership ability, he will bring a lot to the table and be a great support at linebacker.
Bradie James - this guy is coming into his own, last season he stepped up not just to fill in for Dat but also act as a leader to the team, he raised spirits and played fairly well with a few stand out games. he was room for improvement and will be playing next to one of my favorites in akin ayodele.
Kevin Burnett - call him a bust if u want, i dont agree with you. this guy will probably see the field either at OLB or ILB, he is a second round pick who showed potential coming out of college. lets hope he can stay healthy this year . . .
Rocky Boiman (ST) - this guy was brought in here strictly for special teams, he is not going to play much LB (OLB/ILB) but ive heard he is a terror on special teams. i like to call him the Keith Davis of linebackers . . .
Defensive End:
Greg Ellis - hes been the sack leader on this team for ages, he is only 30 so he has a good 2-4 years left on him and is a great leader. he will probably see the field more this year than last even though we added a DE to the equation. look out for ellis being up there in sacks again.
Marcus Spears - a terror . . . last year we didnt see enough of him since we were new to the 3-4. he only had 1.5 sacks but played strongly and freed up our LB's. this year with us being in the second year of this system, him having more experience and us adding a lot of talent to the defense he should explode and record a strong season.
Chris Canty - he has recovered well from injuries and saw the field a bit last season, he has the talent to be a starter and an ACE at that, this year he is on the same boat as marcus spears and will hopefully explode into a great player.
Jeremiah Ratliff (NT) - hes monsterous in size and can play the DE/NT positions (hopefully he does both this year), he will see the field a little bit this year at both. i like his potential, lets see it happen.
*Jason Hatcher (NT) - has room to gain a bit of weight soem say up to 20 lbs, this guy seems to be a freakish athlete, he might have been a reach in the 3rd but they did their research and i think he might just challenge somebody for the starting spot.
Nose Tackle:
Jason Ferguson - he is going to be the starter but can not handle being in their 100% of the time and getting beat up. he is a great run stopper and can eat up blockers, he is not much of a pass rusher though.
Thomas "Pepper" Johnson - i havent seen much of him, but he seems like he would be a solid #3 NT behind our rookie . . .
*Montavious Stanley - I see him taking the #2 spot at NT and rotation with Ferguson, he is big and strong and we drafted him over a few other solid prospects. i hope to see him get in their and man handle some double teams at 315 lbs.
Kicker/Punter:
Mike Vanderjagt - most accurate kicker in the NFL, missed a few clutch kicks, but who hasnt? he is a huge upgrade at kicker.
Mat Mcbriar - he sets our defense up nicely, i like him a lot and he might be 1 of the best punters out there, on top of that he can pin the ball inside the ball very nicely . . .

*Draft pick this year

if im missing anybody important tell me . . .

Who's going to kickoff?

FASANO!

BP likes to use roster spots wisely, i mean i dont see us using a Roster spot on a Kick-off Specialist . . . just my opinion.

good post.. thanks for the work! the only problem-- you have Aaron Glenn starting at CB, and Chris Henry as his backup.. well, Chris Henry is a WR for the Bengals.. you obviously meant Anthony Henry, and he will be starting at CB and Glenn will be the backup..

I figure we are going to onside kick every kickoff. That way if they get the ball half of the time on the 40, and we get the ball half of the time, It'll be almost like our opponents average starting point will be the 20. :D

Also, I know parcells will keep more than three OLB. I would put burnett behind Ware. ONe more thing, jerry already stated we will be keeping 4 TE

Hatcher wasn't a reach in the 3rd round. He went where he was supposed to go.

Here are the things that stand out to me:

1) Our special teams will be much, much improved. Some of the guys we have signed are special teams-based such as Skyler Green, Boiman and Vanderjagt, while a handful of others will be competent.

2) The offense should be much more explosive with Owens and Fasani. Owens, alone, does this, but Fasani replaces a spot on the field previously occupied by Polite, who wasn't exactly striking fear into opponents.

3) The 3-4 defense is looking more and more like a 3-4. All the personnel now matches up with what Parcells is trying to do. Getting Carpenter was huge, and we have some guys behind him that serve as capable depth.

4) Options at safety. Nothing special here right now, but we know what we have in Davis, Coleman appears to be a slight veteran upgrade, and Watkins provides some youth to get excited about.

5) Crossing fingers along the line. The offensive line has huge questions all over the place, but at least we attempted to patch some of the holes. This will really determine how our season turns out, so it'll be interesting to keep an eye on. Even had we spent a 2nd or 3rd on a lineman, we'd still have just as many questions, merely with another body to fill in as a possible answer.

6) I think we really did everything we could this offseason. Another good backup along the offensive line and a body at kicker with a strong enough leg to compete for the kickoff position are really all I could ask for that we haven't addressed. Backup quarterback is a question, and we could opt to sign a Kerry Collins type, but it seems like Parcells really likes Romo. We'll see.

Anyone else think Witten looked really slow last year? I know hes a tight end and all but he looked slow. Fasano is a speed upgrade at TE too.

I think you have Henry & Glenn reversed, Henry was having the PB season before injured and was the #2 CB, with Glenn at nickel.

Excellent point on Fasani... that is a huge, huge upgrade.

The benefit Anthony Fasano brings in place of the departed Dan Cambell is versatility.

We've been running tons of double tight end sets since Parcells came out of retirement, so that's not going to be anyhting new.

What will be new is having two viable pass/run threats on the field at the same time. Neither Witten or Fasano will be the blocker Campbell was in his prime, but both are superior options in the passing game.

Defenses won't be able to ignore one hash as they have when Campbell was a Cowboy.

We'll be asking a lot of the rookie Fasano to come in and start, but defenses will have to focus on Owens, Glenn and Witten.

That should make it easier for him.

And our base offensive set is going to be a match-up nightmare.
