I know it is difficult to look at recent roster moves and not be emotional one way or another. That being said, we as fans, have to have hope that our management has a plan and has the insight to make up for these losses. I do not feel the loss of Canty, Henry, TO or RW38 are earth shattering occurances. All of these losses have ben talked about on this forum for the last couple of months, if not years.
I think that the biggest reason for cutting TO was due to his adverse impact on Romo's growth as a QB. I know TO was productive but I think his game has been falling off - not suprising considering his age - and he was not being double teamed as much as poeple like to say on this site. He was unable to get off the line of scrimmage more often than not against good CB's and I think that and his off the field issues pushed JJ to this point today. Let's not even talk about his giving up on routes in big games which is inexcusable. I do think these young guys have some talent - I know this may not be popular but Crayton is a damn good WR and has great hands. Yes he runs his mouth and he made a couple huge mistakes against the G-Men in the playoffs a few years ago but he can play and produce. I think that Austin (If he can stay healthy) and Hurd can be solid WR's and when put on the field can produce for these team.
They will bring in a young WR with some speed and this part of the roster will be fine IMO - as long as RW steps up to the plate and learns the playbooks and plays to his ability.
RW38 has been a liability for years and the one thing that he brought to the table that was a plus - his big hitting ability - has disappeared along with his passion for the game. This was long overdue. As Belichik stated - safeties today need to be interchangable between the FS and SS positions and need to excel in coverage due the spread formations and athleticism of today's TE. This will be a priority on the draft.
Canty was a guy that I really liked - he was solid - but really wasn't a playmaker. Am I crazy for thinking that Bowen and Hatcher can fill in admirably for Canty? I think if Hatcher gets extensive time on the field he will blossom. No way were we going to shell out 45mil for 2 sacks and a few TFL a season for this guy. No way.
Henry - I remember watching his first game for the Cowboys - against the Chargers in San Diego - and I thought this guy was a stud. He had ability but the longer he stayed you could see he lost a step - not that he was ever a burner - and he just couldn't stay healthy. I think his days here were numbered anyway with the young talent we have at the CB positon and they got what they could by getting Kitna for him.
After watching the games that Romo sat out last year we had to make a move at the back-up QB psotion. Kitna is a huge upgrade and someone that can come off the bench and keep the team competitive - something we have not had in a while.
I would not be suprised if the Pokes picked up a vet WR in the near future - I would hate to even speculate who.
Let's let this thing play out and hope that this will bring more of a Team attitude to the organization and cut into the ongoing media circus that has been a tremendous distraction and burden on this team.
Here's to new days, winning games and a younger, hungrier, more together team.
