The Practice Squad can only have 8 players, but I can only narrow it down to 13 at the moment.

No old backups on OL. Maybe 1 is re-signed after game 1 when their salary is not guaranteed. Kowalski should come off the PUP after week 6.

Difficult to know between Coleman or Spears. I can't see both staying.

Long at WR for game 1. Expect a cut here after game 1 to re-sign an OL.

Game Day OLine - 7 (backups Parnell and Arkin)

Note: Possible PS players in blue.

To paraphrase my question to you in another thread, what about Beasley do you not like. You mentioned he is the player you are least impressed with and I am trying to understand how players like Tyrone Crawford, Dan Connor, Bruce Carter, and/or Lawrence Vickers don't make the list ahead of him for you.

The guy has caught every pass that he could get a hand on (literally) and add's yards to just about every catch. Personally, I'd say, while likely not the most impressive on the team, he is pretty impressive for having been an undrafted free agent. At this point, I'd say he, at least, deserved to be drafted.

Beasley is on my roster.

The post in the other thread was a joke aimed at a couple of Sacred Cows.

Funny you should mention it, because that's how I asked on the other thread: Is that a joke?

I would make a couple of changes.

I would keep Lemon and Silva for special teams and drop Holmes and Hamilton. I believe we can get the latter two onto the practice squad. Lemon and Silva have played very well during the preseason games and I would like to reward that.

I keep Coleman over Geathers. Coleman has started every preseason game. The only reason to cut a starter is if he counts too much against the salary cap or if he is a progress stopper for a can't-miss prospect. We have the cap room to keep Coleman and I view Geathers as a could-miss prospect. Again, I believe we can get Geathers to the practice squad (if he is eligible). I believe the Cowboys would be a better team this season with Coleman on the roster, and I don't see Geathers as a world-beater in the foreseeable future. I didn't think this way a month ago. But, I do now.

By the way, in light of Ratliff's injury, they will probably keep Spears, too, since he can move inside (and has played well).

Great work, as usual!

I would remove Williams and Holmes and replace with Lemon and Silva. We have to be getting close to what the FO is going to select, don't you think. Also keep Coleman and cut Geathers

Yes, there is a good chance that Silva replaces Williams as the 10th DB.

I don't see them keeping 10 LBs. Lemon was on the PS all of last year and no other team signed him then. It shouldn't be a problem to get him on the PS again.

I'm really hopeful that they don't keep both Coleman and Spears. Keeping too many older players has caused problems for this team in the past.

Statistically, the more young developmental players that you have on the team, the better chance you have that some will develop into contributors or starters.

I agree wholeheartedly with this point.

I think the problem with keeping 7 receivers is that there is no Hurd on the bottom of that list, meaning no special teams ace. Therefore, I would take one off and give that spot to Silva or Lemon.

I like those PS players you selected. It's going to be tough bringing that down to 8 players.

1. Indicated Cowboys are leaning toward keeping McGee on the 53.

2. Possible Cowboys will keep seven receivers, but that the seventh receiver isn't on this team now.

Just passing along. He mighta said some other stuff but I turned off the show. Jerry is only good in small doses for me. Maybe the podcast is available - think it was on the "New School" morning show.

Here is the basic conversation on those topics (not exact wording):

Question: Would you keep 7 WRs?

Jerry: We'll see. If we pick up a WR on the waiver wire AND want to keep our guys, then it could happen.

Question: Will you keep 3 QBs?

Jerry: We normally keep 3 QBs, but if we need a extra player at another position, then it's possible we could go with 2. We like McGee. We'll look at it on Wednesday. I don't know if cutting McGee if called for at this time.

Jerry: Ogletree and Harris will both play. Ogletree can play all WR positions. Harris is top run after catch guy.

We like Holmes and Beasley.

If Holmes was the target instead of Harrris on those catches in the Rams game, then we could be talking about him today.

Beasley will be important against the Giants if Austin is limited or can't play because he can play the slot.

He really didn't commit to anything.

thanx
very different picture than the post above

he didnt rule out these options but didnt say we are likely to do this either

i think 'non-commital' would be the best way to describe it

for once, i would agree with jerry
