Dallas made two huge splashes at the defensive end position in the offseason adding Pro Bowler Greg Hardy, and adding a top 10 talent (and at one point a 1st overall candidate ) in Randy Gregory. Much is expected of both these players, however Hardy will start the season suspended while Gregory is only a rookie, and one that needs to add weight to handle the down after down rigors of the DE position.

Dallas has 3 candidates for 2 DE positions week 1. Gregory the highly touted but light in the pants rookie. Lawrence the second year player who has the skill to play both sides. Mincey who is more seasoned and also has the ability to play both sides but doesn't have the upside as a rusher the other two do.

So, Cowboys nation, who do you think will be our week 1 starting RDE and LDE?

I think it's Mincey and Lawrence starting, since I don't think Gregory will be big enough or ready to start or play 3 downs initially. When Hardy comes back it's probably Hardy and Lawrence starting, and at that point I'd expect Gregory to be spelling Hardy with Mincey and Lawrence rotating on the left side.

Agree with the above posts, Lawrence and Mincey are the starters on paper right now. Even if Gregory impresses in camp, which I think he will. I think he will start out as a rotational player.

This serves 2 things. It gets him involved, and won't be over bearing to him. As he will have enough pressure on him anyway. To start as a rookie, and may still be underweight somewhat. Depending on what Woicheck (sp?) can do between now and the end of camp.

And when Hardy returns, and all is going well, then it doesn't matter the starters, because there will be 4 getting into a rotation, keeping them fresh.
Each will have their own strengths and weaknesses. So spending the opponent and game plan may determine who starts what games.

Say if a team is strong in the run game, the 2 better at run defense may start out.
Or maybe I am just over thinking it....lol

Hate it when anybody adds "nation" to a team. It is Sooners Nation because of its American Indian ties. Otherwise all you pretenders just knock off the "nation" bit.

as to DE's, we drafted Gregory to pressure the QB. Let him git rid of his rookie jitters and turn him loose. The sooner this gifted athalete gets going the better. If not now, when?
As to the other side, Lawrence half the ability to do a good job so let him play and prosper.
Onward!

as of today, i'd guess they'd start lawrence and mincey, with gregory getting some snaps

And to go further, I think Mincey will start at right end and Lawrence at left end. The reason for that is Lawrence is better off focusing on less positions while Mincey has the experience to go back and forth between spots more. Gregory could spell Mincey at right end and Mincey could spell Lawrence at left end.
