Tyron Smith - T - Player USC OT Tyron Smith has reportedly bulked up to 315 pounds after being "listed" at 280 by the Trojans.
Smith is trying to appeal to not only zone-blocking clubs, but teams that run power run schemes. Even hovering in the 300-pound range, it's hard to imagine any team passing on the tackle with the draft's best upside because of his weight. Smith is reportedly running a 1.70 ten-yard split at the new weight, proving he can still move fast and maintain plenty of athleticism.

This is just my pure opinion, but I'm basing it on my best judgement.

Dallas would not hesitate to draft Tyron Smith over:

Nick Fairley
Da'Quan Bowers
Robert Quinn
Prince Amukamara

Nick Fairley is a 43 3 technique. He is a quickness player, not a power player. He is a shade under 6-4 and undersized for the 5 technique or NT position. I think he's a 43 player only, imo. He doesn't use his hands well according to Warren Sapp. Plus, he plays plays high, and doesn't play with the same consistent motor or intensity on tape. Furthermore, he has two years of junior college and one dominant year at Auburn, in two years at Auburn. There are questions about his work ethic, and he didn't lift at the combine or his pro day due to a shoulder injury. Plus, his body didn't look good at the combine and looked better at his pro day. Fairley appears to be a classic boom or bust pick, and Dallas would be wise to stay away from him for that reason alone. I think he would have to play Jay Ratliff's position in the base defense, and he plays too high and isn't a power player. He would be a project at NT unlike Dareus. It should be noted that Fairley isn't scheduled to visit Dallas, and I don't think that is smoke screen, either. However, he's still a top 10 pick to 43 teams and probably will not get past the Titans. The Titans like Jake Locker, but I don't think they would pass on Fairly for Locker. They like Andy Dalton, too.

Robert Quinn has to prove that he can play in a 34 (rush, run, and coverage), and he needs to get stronger, especially against the run. Plus, he has the medical issue and didn't play football last season after being suspended for the season, in an agent scandal. It was a really bad choice that must be in the back or your mind, no matter what. The Cowboys like Anthony Spencer more than some fans, and Spencer's play in coverage and against the run couldn't be matched by Quinn for sure. Spencer has more power, and Quinn would probably need to start off at Ware's position. How is he getting on the field early? Are you going to draft a situational pass rusher at 9? I don't think Dallas will. I think Ware and Spencer block Quinn, and Quinn's best fit early on will probably be in a 43. Quinn has tape where he doesn't play the run very well; plus, he has to show that he can project to outside linebacker in a 34, after looking stiff in positional drills and not testing as well at projected at the combine. Dallas doesn't have the luxury to wait on Quinn or put him on ice. Plus, Dallas has two of its best players on defense in Ware and Spencer. Quinn's pro day will be important.

Bowers is a 43 DE, and that is the way to get the best out of him. Asking him to 2 gap as a 5 technique and kick inside isn't what he is as a player. He is undersized at 6-3, 280. He doesn't fit the scheme. He isn't Bruce Smith. Plus, he has the "one year wonder" tag and the medical issue on his knee. I think there is some bust potential with him. Dallas will not take him, imo. Bowers doesn't have elite burst or quick twitch ability, and he is risky, imo.

Prince Amukamara isn't a top 10 pick, imo. He's a good CB and a high character guy. However, I think people who really do their homework know that Dallas will not take him at 9.

The Cowboys would not hesitate to take Tyron Smith over all of these players, imso.

When you add the offensive players, Smith trumps this list, imo.

Fairley
Quinn
Bowers
Amukamara
Green
Jones
Gabbert
Newton

I think Dallas wouldn't hesitate to draft Tyron Smith over these guys, too:

Cameron Jordan
J.J. Watt
Gabe Carimi
Nate Solder
Derek Sherrod

That leaves three players:

Patrick Peterson
Marcell Dareus
Tyron Smith

Dallas would be wise to anchor at 9, and take Smith, a blue chip, cornerstone player in their offensive line for the next 12 years.

I get the same vibe from everything we've been hearing/reading. I'm on board with Smith. Free and Smith could make a very nice pair of tackles for many years. Their athleticism should give us an opportunity to run screens and sweeps better than we have in the past. The extremely unathletic Flozell, Davis, Colombo types need to be a thing of the past.

I got to believe he was working on his weight all year; and that USC did not bother to change what was listed. For him to gain 35 lbs of muscle in just 4 months....

I just hope its not roids.

Those are the three top players on my board too. I like Bowers too, but I'm also very hesitant about him. I'm not completely sold on his health.

If Tyron was coming out next year, he would be A1 on the list.

If it were steroids, the drug testing would show it. If he is using anything, it would have to be something like HGH.

It's incredible and if he's still moving that fast his knee has to be better.

He's 20 so he is in his last growth spurt so maybe that's how he's doing it with the weight.

All this athletic stuff is impressive. I do have to admit even though I have been one of his biggest detractors.

I just don't see it show up in the games he played. Now he was much lighter in that body of work so obviously putting on that type of size would help him be more stout which is my problem with him.

This guys pro day is going to be as important as Bowers who may go 1st or 2nd overall depending on how good his day is.

If Tyron Smith is as good as advertised and he has an awesome pro day he may even go before us.

Buffalo needs a LT badly. Arizona and Cleveland could use a RT. Obviously we need a RT.

I just think he's too risky to go top 10 at this point and I don't want our team to have to take the risk.

I'm hoping this guy can shoot up the draft so high out of our reach. If he pans out with a team who took him higher than so be it because they were willing to give up a bigger pick for the risk.

It will just give us a better shot at a surer player anyways.

If Tyron is up tp 315lbs and has an incredible pro day, I agree. He could easily go before the #9 overall pick.

Oh, you mean those two YouTube clips you watched with a pastrami sandwhich on your lap during your lunch break at work?

So much for the people arguing he couldn't gain weight.

The question now is can't he maintain the weight during the riggers of the season. :laugh2:

Haha! Hate pastrami as much as you like it.

Still with that Youtube garbage.

Look, if you got all this footage proving otherwise, take it and put it together so we can all watch why Tyron Smith should be drafted at 9 if Fairley or Bowers is sitting there.

Instead of bickering about the other posters available footage of him playing.

Because seriously, Fairley or Bowers who constantly beats double teams would whip Tyron 1 on 1 and with whatever TE or RB help Tyron's coaches had to give him by the 2nd half in college.

You talk about anything other than why you think Tyron Smith will be drafted by us.

I just want to see him pop somebody. Just once!

I don't care at what weight.

That's all I'm asking of the proclaimed best tackle in this draft.

The ability to push someone around. Just once.

I mean this in the most objective way possible. Because I would love to have another imposing force on the o-line.

Sorry, don't have the "footage" at my disposal for you, lol. Fortunately, living on the West Coast I get to see Pac-10 games and have watched USC/Tyron Smith plenty of times.

Your entire basis for critiquing Smith is based off a YouTube clip.

End of story.

"Because seriously..." :laugh2:

Complete hyperbole and fantasy.

Let me try, if you put Tyron Smith against Chuck Norris in pads, he'd fold up Norris like a pretzel... Yeah, seriously!

He was playing last year at 19 years old. He's just beginning to grow into the body he'll have at 24.

You have nothing tangible as usual. You're as usual a waste of my blogging time.

I should have never replied to you after you quoted my post.

Do us both a favor and leave it at this. Cause I'm going to.

I have no more time to waste with you. Been a month and you have just comments and insults. No analysis on Tyron Smith.

You're that ugly chick that keeps approaching me that I don't want to talk to.

I was nice but have no more patience for a protagonist with any agenda other than being able to talk objective football.

That's all I asked. What do you see about Tyron Smith? You wanna talk about me like we're out to dinner instead.

You're one corney dude.

Bro, go get some straight action and change it up before you approach me again.

Done!

You're right, you're done, spent, and exhausted all your knowledge on Tyron Smith and his YouTube clip.

Thanks for playing.

I would hope we don't draft Tyron Smith if Fairley is there.

I think I would vomit.

I'm getting more and more sold on Smith the more I hear about him. I think Peterson and Dareus are the only players that we likely grade higher. I might put Von Miller on that list (ducks), but I'm starting to think Smith is going to be our guy.
