Rough Game

This was a rough game for me as a Cowboys fan. How? I'm at my in-laws in Arkansas, and no she's not my sister/cousin I'm a Texan. There is only one TV in the house and it's in the living room where everyone is visiting. Earlier they have it on Arkansas playing basketball and I'm thinking what is wrong here this Thanksgiving, uh football please. Finally at 3 I say to my father-in-law, a great guy, you guys get FOX right? Oh yeah he says the Cowboys are playing, sure let me flip it over there. He gets it to FOX and that affiliate has horrible reception in their area. They've got cable and every other station is clear as a bell except FOX. I can't here the game, I'm trying to catch anything I can. I see the Bucs score early and think oh man Dallas please show up for this game. Then it's picture time and they need to turn the TV off because of the glare! Are you kidding me, I mean I don't want to melt down in front of my in-laws, but this is getting out of hand. Finally folks start leaving and I kick the tube back on to Dallas 21 Bucs 10 and I've missed way to much and it's going to half time. I think great I'll chill everyone is gone I'll catch the second half and get back to some Thanksgiving normalcy. That's when my pop-in-law and brother-in-law say they're heading to the deer woods come on along. No big deal right I'll get back before half time is over there just gonna make a quick run and we're already in the boonies.
I get back roughly an hour later and the score, which I can barley read is 38-10 with a few minutes left in the 3rd and I've missed it. I can tell at this point my father-in-law is like look they've got this think wrapped up and this reception is horrible why don't we see what else is on, and I'm like no we're gonna finish this out if it's the last thing we do. I did enjoy squinting thru to the end to see us run the ball on every down and basically see that the players on both sides were to the point of, can we just go home and get some dressing.

I apologize for my rant but I guess I just needed to vent. And, I figured if anyone would understand it would be folks on this board. Moderators forgive me for this long pointless post. I will take my discipline like a man. Did anyone else go thru such a travesty this Thanksgiving?

All jokes aside this is mine and my wife's first Thanksgiving w/ our healthy, happy baby girl. I am a blessed man.

Happy Thanksgiving. Go Cowboys.

Dude, you need to grow a pair, you're not a child anymore! Stand up for what you want, you'll be miserable if you keep going down this path.

So what if they label you a football junkie...

This advice worked for me, I've been happily married for 20+ years...

It's a story like this that makes me stay home to watch the game in HD or go to the game itself.

I'm not watching Dallas in SD anymore.

I am getting married in two weeks and I converted her to a complete Dallas Cowboy fan.
You must set your priorities in order to make a happy home.
ALL in the family should understand Thanksgiving means Dallas football or Archie/Edith can keep their turkey!
Stand tall, strong and go Cowboys...

Indeed. Watching the Cowboys takes precedent over the turkey dinner. Infact, I call the last Thursday in November NATIONAL COWBOY DAY.

TTownCowboy, I would have blown my lid by the end of the 1st quarter

just READING your story pisses me off

I watch most of the games at home, in my room, by myself. Either that, or with other Cowboys fans at their house, knowing there won't be a single interruption

Visiting the in-laws on a holiday entitles you to take a 3 hour break to see our 'Boys. Next year, head to the sports bar or somewhere you can see the game.

One year while visiting my in laws we ate and watched the first and just when the Cowboys were going to start they decide it's time to go visiting. I about lost it. They now know I'm not going anywhere when the Cowboys are playing.

can you go into more detail (sounds interesting)

After all that happened to you, this was the best line of your story.

Next year, invite the in-laws to your house.;)

I actually left my family at the in laws and drove home to watch it in the sanctity of my own home. I have always done this, they know the deal, its just the way it is.

I refuse to miss any portion of the boys for ludicrous reasons. I would go batty if what happened to the original poster happened to me.

I missed the end of the Houston game (aka Romo time) because CBS cut out and I was at my girlfriend's for the first time during a game, stupid idea.

I turned to her and said, from now on, I'm staying home for every game.

1) HD at home
2) Sunday Ticket at home

Here's your blueprint:

From the moment I met my wife, the Cowboy propaganda began. Every article showing the human side of players - charity work, tough backgrounds, comebacks - I'd mention it or have her read it, telling her upfront my masterplan to tug at her heartstrings. Then I'd point the guy out on Sunday after a great play or bad play. She'd either feel really happy or sorry for him. Both worked. It wasn't long before she started watching, then cheering, then cheering wildly. She even cried in frustration and disappointment when we lost to the Commanders. Now, every year at Thanksgiving, it has become tradition for her to decline all the invites from friends and in-laws, telling everyone, "We prefer to spend Thanksgiving at home with the Cowboys." And she means it! She doesn't want any interference with the game, and has been a fan for five years.

How 'bout that cowboy?!
