Round 3, Pick 84 - Chauncey Golston

These guys are going for a Superbowl?

Going to make sure McCarthy earns that 5 year deal. then when it's done he gets the handshake and "we need a change". Then it's the same thing. Get another lame duck coach and recycle a new hyped name every year.

I’m all good with the Parsons pick but this FO straight up blew it the rest of the draft.

They were armed with draft capital and still got caught with their pants down.

I will wager good money Joseph doesn’t finish out his rookie contract.

Osa was a decent 3rd round pick.

Gholston is training camp fodder.

Just straight up trash. We had a terrible season and had good draft picks as a result, and drafted like we just won the divisional round

Dallas got worked the whole draft by Teams trading up and last year by everyone knowing what they they wanted. You can’t stay put anymore. With that extra 3rd they should have moved up. They could move up in the 4th

100%

The 3rd round selections seem to be in the mold of Stephen's free agent acquisitions.

Osa is a DT/DE tweener.

Golston is a LDE/RDE tweener.

Position flex nonsense.
Osa is 6-2, 285. 10 pounds more and he's an excellent DT3.
Golston is a classic LDE at 6-4, 270.
Both had excellent careers & dominated throughout the week at the Senior Bowl. Golston is much quicker than his size would indicate. Both were first team all conference last year.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. The Cowboys drafted as if they thought they would have to pay rookies more depending on how good they are instead of where they were drafted. It's like they looked for bargain rookies!

I expected a much better draft tonight. Taking Joseph was a good move, but after that the must have started serving booze or weed because the picks got worse as the night progressed. And that last pick was just a horror show. Wright is a projected 7th round pick or UDFA. What were they thinking?

Both would make excellent 5th round picks.

We are drafting back-up, rotational guys while we have glaring holes at other spots.

I don't know of any spots more glaring than the D-line. Can't think of a worst one in the NFL. Every mock I saw had Osa in the 3rd. Golston maybe in the 4th. Too much whining on this site when you haven't seen them play with a star yet. Besides, we still have 4 rounds to go yet.

He fits the mold of DE on early downs and move inside on passing.

Overview
Base end prospect for a 4-3 defense with potential to reduce inside for sub-packages. Golston has added good weight on his frame since coming to Iowa, but holding the point of attack and setting a strong edge will be a challenge for him due to his lack of play strength. While his rush off the edge is ordinary, he flashes as a disruptive interior rusher able to slip into gaps and make some noise. There are some physical traits to work with, so he could find work if he can add more strength and keep improving his rush.

Goldson is the new Tyrone Crawford. Good base LE against the run and kicks inside against the pass. Many had him as a early 4th rd pick, Cowboys took him a rd early. Not a terrible player by any means, but there were better players to take at that pick.

Yeah I would've liked this in round 4, loved it in round 5. Maybe he plays a specific role in Quinn's D?

It's not my most hated pick--I was WAY wrong on Hitchens, who Golston reminds me of for obvious reasons--but I think we could've had him later

I think many of us are still thinking about Marinelli's scheme, Quinn's is a little different. The LE is more of a 5 Tech, two gapper. Must have the length to occupy multiple blockers.

Man, it's felt like we've been ONE pick away all draft.

Off my head, if we drafted the guy taken right ahead of us in every round, we'd have

-Patrick Surtain
-Trevon Morhrig
-Paulson Adebo
-Tommy Tremble

That would be an A+ home run draft in my book. Instead we're getting a weird mix of Garrett-certified wrong kind of guys and unknowns.

They sat on their hands in 2009 too...

You only think this way because you don't know who these guys are.

If you get guys who contribute, ever, in the third round and on, you've hit. Osa has huge upside and gholston should contribute a bit right away. Those are good picks.

I know exactly who these guys are. They're fourth rounders who fill out our depth chart. We needed to be looking at starters.

You don't get day 1 starters in the third round lol

You try to.
No, you don't. Anything after the second round is a future pick. Occasionally you find a guy who starts - but these are developmental picks.

Go look at previous third rounders around the league, something like half don't even stick in the league.

I think Osa and Gholston are solid, versatile kids who try hard. They just got drafted a round or two too early.
Good point. I'd be fine w/ them in the late 4th/5th/6th. Taking them in the 3rd makes no sense to me.
