Newy Scruggs on 105.3 The Fan here in Dallas said he talked to Roy Williams the safety and Roy told him it would be made official that he has been released today.

Disclaimer: Sorry if this has already been posted. Can't post a link to a radio.:)

Okay, let me get this straight.

So now we have gaping holes to fill at DE, ILB 2x, SS, WR, and T.

Unfortunately, we have a gaping hole at SS whether RoyW is released or not.

Zing.

I'm looking forward to another solid draft, I think we are going SS at 51 still even though we desperately need another receiver.

Not shocking, in the least, cause now this move has to be made in order to save that 2 million we'll save by not having him on the cap.

I love Roy, always have, and I'll be cheering for him to do well somewhere else. But life goes on. The Cowboys were the Cowboys before TO and Roy and they will be after TO and Roy.

Just like it was when Bob Lilly retired, Staubach retired, Irvin, Smith, and Aikman retired or got released.

Two of my favorite players on this team getting released today....

This sucks...:bang2: :bang2:

Sorry, but if RW38 is still one of your favorite players, you have some issues. I don't see how anyone could still like a player who basically quit caring about playing football the instant he got paid his big contract. He went from being a WR's and TE's worst nightmare to being a leaguewide joke overnight and it can all be traced back to the day he signed his big money deal. He quit on the Cowboys and the day I realized it about a year and a half ago, I quit on him and have been ashamed that he was a Cowboy ever since!

Yep, with the 9 million dollar cap hit we take this year by releasing T.O., Roy was already toast. Pun intended.

Right! I never cared for Roy-Willy as a player -- you just don't spend a top ten pick on a safety -- but I think he's a decent human being and I'll always pull for him wherever he goes and whatever he does.

Have they thrown in the towel and officially declared this a rebuilding season? They most think the production of T.O. and Roy has really declined because that is a lot of money to pay for nothing.

He changed when he found faith and got dumped by Rowland.

But in the back of my mind, I thought he still had the fierceness he played with somewhere deep down.

So yes.. i will miss him wearing the star.

That is a ridiculous statement.

DE - Hatcher and Bowen have both shown they can make plays. Theres also the chance Ratliff moves over if they find a big DT. Thats not a gaping hole.

ILB - With James, Brooking, and Carpenter we have 2 starters and a backup. No gaping hole. The team certainly needs more bodies and probably a nickle LB but the starters are in place.

SS - We already had this gaping hole. RW38 sucked and we are better off without that huge quitter!

WR - We have guys that can play. I'm sure we will add a veteran and a rookie so I'm not worried at all.

T - We have our veteran starters and neither was ever going to be replaced. Sure we will draft someone but I'd hardly call this a gaping hole.

The only gaping hole I see is at SS and that hole has existed for 2 years ever since RW38 quit caring about playing football.

No. Not even close.

I still stand by belief that we have gaping holes at SS, DE, MLB 2x, WR, and T. I forgot NT last time around too.

I agree with you.

We had to get a SS in any case.

As for WR, I think we will add 1 more either via FA or the Draft.

The key is whether RW can be the number 1. He should be able to be that.

8:47 Barry Vigoda: Breaking news: Roy Williams - the safety - is apparently being released also. Calvin Watkins and Todd Archer are working on that story and we will have the latest here on the Cowboys blog.

Well, I stand by my belief that your belief is ridiculous!

I am sad about this. :(

http://www.nbcdfw.com/sports/football/Cowboys-Cut-Safety-Roy-Williams.html

T.O. is not the only member of the Dallas Cowboys that was released Wednesday night. After seven seasons, safety Roy Williams is no longer a member of America's Team.
The move should be no surprise to Cowboys fans since there has been heavy speculation that Williams would not be back for the 2009 season.
Williams confirmed the team's decision to Newy Scruggs Thursday morning.
Williams was a first-round draft pick in 2002 out of Oklahoma and quickly became one of the most well-known safeties in the league.

Williams, who made five straight Pro Bowls, was sidelined much of the 2008 season with a forearm injury. In 2006, he signed a four-year contract extension with the team through 2010.
