Roy Williams and Sean Taylor

I saw an interview on NFL Access last week with Roy Williams. Today, I saw a clip with Sean Taylor answering various questions from the media. It amazes me just how much better of a “character” Roy is compared to Sean. You can just tell that Sean is a thug. Roy on the other hand is very well mannered and respectful. I wouldn’t trade Roy for Sean even if the Skins offered two additional first round picks.

Roy is definitely a high character guy and we are lucky he's a Cowboy. Get workin on that contract extension Stephen!

I wonder if Miami makes them that way or if those kinds of people are just attracted to that university... maybe a little bit of both?

Both guys are talented, no question about that. I believe that Taylor's talent is more natural than Roy's is. Just now after reading this post, when I think of Roy (Larry Bird comes to mind) and we all know that that guy was great.

Most guys like Taylor has a lot of natural talent, but never had someone to show them that having a great character along with that talent will take you a long ways in professional sports and in life.

I do not believe you can blame tha "U" (as Irvin calls it) because they do put out a lot of high character guys, probably more than you and I know. Those guiys do not get into trouble or holdouts so we do not hear muc about them until football season when they make plays.

Taylor was asked about his absence from mini camp. He said it was his time off and he deos what he wants with his time. Thought that to be odd. Wonder how the guys that were there felt about that.

Compared to Miami, Oklahoma is a more high character school. Just my opinion.

Miami's really been under a microscope here recently since it's definitely a high profile university. Don't forget that it's a private university and not everyone can be admitted. It just appears that there's definitely a ghetto-type atmosphere in the surrounding Miami community save South Beach (which is very, very nice) ;)

I agree...I'm glad the Boys drafted Roy. It's just comical that such a fierce hitter like Roy comes off as a low-key guy off the field. Bill Bates was the same way.

Although Roy according to some here at the board, has less natural talent than Taylor. I would take Roy any day. He deals with the media properly, treats fans properly, and lets his talking make the headlines..not off the field activities. As opposed to Taylor who is defensive when talking to the media, signs contracts that he shouldn't, and whose picture in the paper is a mug shot instead of a tackle. He craves the spotlight a little too much as well.

I heard once that he was buying a pack of cigarettes at agas staton here in Virginia and the guy asked him for ID. He threw a tantrum and said"Do you know who I am!??". Then threw down a wad of hundreds, and said"I could buy this place!". His GF who was in the car came back in to pick up the cash and aplogize.

I rather have Roy any day.

I believe it was the Miami chancellor who once said, "We want to build a university our football team can be proud of....."

Really? I guessed all the players in NFL that could "Learn" to hit like Roy? I didn't know players could just learn to hit like Roy?

I wonder why I never even see a DL hit like Roy?

Personally, Roy has great natural talent, rare ones that come along, kind of like Randy Moss type, once in decade or so. Its just that his talent is hitting and tackling. Not covering recievers like a blanket.

Now Taylor can be a great FS, not SS. Not in Roy Williams category anyway, no one in NFL past ten years has been such a devastating hitter as Roy, PERIOD.

Now having said that, Character sometimes cannot be just taught that easily. Especially if the person is an adult. You most often have to grow up with that (i.e. parents, gaurdians, peers etc.). Its obvious whoever was Taylor's influence or influences were, were not good ones. I just don't believe the guy will change a lot. We shall see though.

Bill Bates was an overachiever. Roy is gifted. Bill Bates was a hard worker with marginal talent. Roy is a hard worker with probowl talent. The only things in common between the two are politeness and wearing the Cowboy uniform.

At this point Taylor has proven nothing. At this point he is ALL hype. Roy is a stud. I think everyone on this board will see how elite he is this year playing in his proper position, strong safety. I predict he will take over games this year.

That is a pretty low blow, but come to think of it, it is probably the truth. LOL.

The Univ of Miami is in Coral Gables, which is just about as nice as it gets. It is not anywhere near the "hood". The Orange Bowl however, is in some rough parts of town.

Ed Reed was a better SS this year than Roy Williams. And there's a guy named Ray Lewis who might take offense to "no one in NFL past ten years has been such a devastating hitter as Roy, PERIOD"
