My brother and I were discussing Roy Williams today. He brought up a very good point. I stated that the Cowboys severely overpayed for Roy Williams and that his contract was not worth his production. He then responded that we (all Cowboy fans) overestimated Roy Williams's value and that he would not be the 1 reciever on this team. No one complained when Jerry made the trade and hindsight is 20/20. He did say that Williams, once he gets on page with Romo, would be a good number 2 receiver and that his contract would be a bargain in a couple of years. What do you guys think a good number 2 receiver will command in the open market in about 2 years time?

All in all, not a terrible way to look at it. If he becomes the possession guy like Keyshan was, we pay Miles and grab a WR in next years draft, we are looking pretty good. We overpayed, but we need to get over it and you are right, in 3-4 years this may not look so bad.

Umm, a few things. First, a bunch of people hated the move from the start. I don't think *that* many people hated getting Roy Williams the player, but hated the price and draft picks we paid to acquire him.

Secondly, $45 million -- plus a 1st and 3rd round pick -- won't be a good going rate for a No. 2 wide receiver any time soon, unless the team is sporting Randy Moss and Jerry Rice as their two wideouts.

I will say this in Roy's defense. Right now he's not only fighting opponents but he's fighting perception -- the perception of being a No. 1 receiver, being worth the money, being better than Miles, being an adequate replacement for T.O. So far, he's striking out. But hidden beneath his uninspired routes and lack of production is a pretty good player. Not great, but definitely a high quality starting player. I don't think he'll ever justify his contract, but I do think there's still a good chance we view him in a different -- and much more productive -- light by season's end.

There's absolutely no way in hell #2 WRs are getting $9 million a year in a few years. He's overpaid right now and will be until the day he is released unless he picks it up. I do agree that he can likely end up a good #2 but he will still be overpaid.

ppl didnt complain about the trade bc Roy wasnt asked to be the #1 until TO was let go! Roy as a #2, or #3 if your young guys step up, is a great move... Roy as the next Playmaker is somewhat laughable!

I don't know how good Roy will be. Or how bad he'll be. But I do know its week 7 and he has Jason Witten and Miles Austin who looks like a legit player in this league alongside him. With the more coverage Miles will get it will open up things for other guys. Maybe Crayton? Maybe Roy. The salary thing just doesn't bother me. It's not my money. I'm going to critique him strictly on his play on the field and its not been good. Or maybe it has been for what he really is. But I do think he can be a #1 or #2 on this team. But I do as of right now he and Romo are not on the same page and it doesn't help that Roy is hobbled. Maybe the Seahawks game can get him back on track? We'll see.

I think most fan's, especially cowboys fans, overreact to just about everything that happens to this team. Just watch the games and be happy The Cowboys aren't as bed as the other teams in the league. Why should we care that Roy is over paid? Yeah, i understand that down the road that money could have been spent on other players or even a productive free agent or the draft pick that we gave up could have landed us a better player. But, its to late now, we got him, he's here, he isn't going any where soon, stop stop complaining and just hope he starts to preform better. Because all the complaining and threads is not gonna make him magically go away or get any better.

I think Jerry viewed RW as an Irvin type....big body, good hands, fight for the ball possession receiver ..unfortunately he doesnt have half the heart Irvin has.....I have been a Roy supporter and still believe he can be a good WR for us...just not great.........

Roy just needs to stop telling people he's great and start working towards being great....there is a reason his QB doesnt trust him

Yeah, his mentality is what bugs me as well. Not a bad guy, but I get the feeling he has a lot of "Detroit" in him. Also, any professional athlete who recollects his high school days as much as Roy does concerns me.

How do you determine one's heart though? Wouldn't playing with hurt ribs show a players heart? I think Roy wants to do well. I think he actually hurts when he doesn't play well. He's just not playing well. But I don't think you can question his heart. I'd question Barbie Carpenters heart for the game. I'd probably even question Flozell's which may be unfair. But Roy? I don't think I can.
