Hey Guys, I almost forgot that he was on the Cowboys. Most of the time when Winslow was out there, he was being covered by someone else (Henry). So any observations except his stat line which read 2 tackles?

I guess I would rather have him not register anything else since I'm so used to him whiffing or blowing a coverage from the last 2 seasons. Someone have a better observation- with a grade?

Roy Williams having a quiet game is a good thing.

He did fine, just like almost everyone else on the defense. He gave up one third-down conversion, although Aikman said the receiver pushed off (they never showed the replay). Roy spent a lot of time in the over-the-top coverage on Winslow, with another defender (often Ellis) bumping Winslow at the line, and it seemed to work. I didn't see Roy playing in the box very often.

Zach and Bradie had quiet days. Doesn't mean they didn't do their jobs.

I'd have to go back and watch but I thought they had him matched up with K2 when they unsuccessfully threw at Henry from the 4. I just remember at the time that it was odd that they would try to throw against Henry with Williams lined up on Winslow. I could be totally wrong though.

Maybe he changed his number so quarterbacks wouldn't look and say "Oh, there's 31, I'll throw it there!"

I am rewatching the game right now and he showed up more than I thought. He had good coverage when he was asked to and assists that won't show up on the box score. For instance, on the 1st and goal at the 1 when Jamaal Lewis gets tackled for -1 yards, Roy slips his blocker and tackles Lewis low. Ellis and Ware got credit because they were immediately in front of him, but Lewis may have powered his way forward if Roy doesn't take out his legs.

I like that Roy is given a bit less responsibility now. He looks more focussed in preseason and this game, tackling moving forward decisively. I thought he layed a pretty darn good lick on Winslow on that one catch the TE made. You could hear it. Roy smacked a few guys hard like I hadn't seen in a couple of years in preseason as well. Smacks you could hear all the way in the booth.

Winslow was pretty quiet after the lick Roy put on him. That is the part of Roy's game that was forgotten. Passing across the middle used to be a death sentence for other teams. They would often drop passes with nobody around because they thought Roy might be coming. That changed last 2 seasons in particular. Even Witten heard footsteps and saw a flash of jersey coming for him today and took eye off ball for a couple of seconds. Can't underestimate the effect those smacks across the middle play in terms of psychology and wearing down receivers. Hamlin did a destruction of one guy that couldn't hold the ball. Timed it beautiful.

I wonder if Roy will slowly build himself back into a majority of snaps type player, and one that stays a Cowboy. It will be interesting. I think he needs to earn it back, and I have been one of the harder posters on him, but I see some steps in right direction so far in offseason and 1st game. Thought he looked pudgy in that hottub footage just before camp, where he was doing aqua-exercises, but he looks pretty fit out there, bit slimmer. More important he seems decisive, perhaps as part of a reduced/less complicated role/assignments.

Agreed, the Browns got away from the run quickly which makes it hard to see the ILBs show up on tv. That being said I did notice we continued the trend from preseason and saw a number of inside blitzes this game.

I thought Roy played pretty well and I was down on him last year. I think he gave up a completion or two to K2, but I don't know if it was his responsibility. If it was there is no shame in it because he had good coverage on both plays, and immediately tackled him.

Nobody really stepped up on the Defence, they all did what they were asked and did their jobs. Nothing more, nothing less. Hopefully we see the D step up and cause havoc next week against McCrab and the Iggles.

I started to get a little down on Roy last year, even being one of his most fervent defenders, but I did see at least one good hit last night and didn't see him give up much of anything.

It's good to see some level-headed people who actually give credit where it is due, despite Roy's lackluster recent history.
