Roy's stat's with the Cowboys this season:
  • 9 Games
  • 17 receptions (1.8 per game)
  • 194 yards (11.4 /catch and 21 yards per game)
  • 1 TD
Last year as the #2 WR, Crayton averaged 3.12 catches per game and 44 yards per game.

I'm not sure at this point that Roy Williams has been a worthy replacement for Crayton.

My biggest concern, and I noticed this last year (I live in Michigan and watch many of the Lions's games) is his general ability to gain yards after the (RAC) has been going down and I've definitely seen that this year again. I think he has lost some of his speed and some of the suddeness needed to do something useful after the catch.

At this point in the season can we really blame Roy's play on being new, or taking time to learn the playbook?

He could be a good WR for us one day, but he'll never "scare" defenses like TO or other elite recievers.

Let's pray his foot is a major problem, because he simply isn't getting much seperation in his routes.

Without being able to watch the gametape or be at the game to judge, its very tough getting a accurate read on RW. I know watching one play from TV it appeared he was slow??? Although I am puzzled by the lack of throws, its not like he is part of the O at all???? Is he just bad??? hurt??? clueless??

In the NFL Quarterbacks, even poor ones, tend to find the open man. I say all this RW just isn't "part of the offense yet" talk is baloney. If RW was beating his man, he'd be getting more catches

He was thrown at 8 times last night. I think he's hurt(I hope because he doesn't look good) or he isn't fully comfortable with the playbook yet.

Really ? and you know this how ?

Also in your original post you forgot one stat:

3

as in the average of the number of times he's targeted per game since he became a Cowboy.

he's playing with the same bad foot injury that kept Newman out half of last season

Know what? It isn't a mystery that NFL coaches want their QB throwing to open WRs and that QB's like throwing to the open guy?

Randy, things don't have to be that complicated.

What's your theory on why the Romo isn't throwing him the ball more than 3 times a game?

We got a WR that stuck in a system and with a OC that has no idea how to utilize the talent he has. New OC next year = a new Roy Williams

I watched the game last night, and what I saw was a disgruntled Roy Williams. 1st to Leave the huddle, last to show up. Roy was slapping his hands multiple time to Romo during the snap count (saying Romo throw it to me). He did the same exact stuff here in Detroit.
Roy is a great talent, but he will get an attitude if he doesn't get a ball thrown his way. Roy will get "LAZY" if he don't get thrown to (separation for backfield). That's Roy..... He was the man in Detroit, and now he's playing second fiddle to T. Owens and every other receiver on the team.

If it was as simple as that, anybody could become an NFL QB and an NFL receiver, but it isn't.

The reality is that, unlike a video game, an NFL QB in most occasion, doesn't have time to just sit back and decide to throw the ball to the guy who's open. An NFL QB has just enough time to go to his primary read, rarely to his 2nd read, and even more rarely his 3rd, before he gets tatooed to the ground or starts running for his life.

What's your theory on why the Romo isn't throwing him the ball more than 3 times a game?

Because he's being asked to play a similar role to what Alvin Harper played back in the '90s. The difference is that unlike Harper, who had Michael, Emmitt, and Jay ( Novacek ) to share the ball with on the passing game, RW has T.O., Witten, Crayton, Austin, plus now the Barber/Choice combination.

That's the unintended consequence of having so much talent.

This offense throws the ball a heck of alot more than what the 90's offense did, but rarely did that offense had more than 2 WR depth, with all due respect to Kelvin Martin.

Love your username :laugh2: and :welcome:

I think the injury is definitely part of it, but he does look a little too big to me. It could be the foot injury isnt allowing him to workout the way he wants and he's tacked on some lb's, but I think he needs to drop some weight in the offseason.

From what I gathered yesterday.

He's slow, doesn't get any separation, runs the wrong routes, and has quite possibly the dumbests "was that my fault?" face I have ever seen.

He is also the 2ND HIGHEST PAID WR IN THE LEAGUE.

This guy has had people making excuses for him every year (going back to college) for why he has not been a consistently dominant player given his size, speed and ball skills. It may just be that he is lazy on and off the field - that is not a problem that can be fixed by anyone other than RW11. Given his age, it is unlikely he is going to change this attitude now that he has his $45M.

This was a panic move to bring in a player that was not needed on this team because Jerry misunderstood what the problem was on offense - the backup OL are just bad and MB3 is not a feature RB who can take advantage of 7-man fronts when the safeties are playing deep to key on TO. The proper solution would have been to trade for another OL at the deadline and play Choice and Felix more.

This team will not be great until Jerry finds himself a proper football man who will corral him in. Parcells did it for his first 3 years here but then let TO come. Jerry showed some restraint his first year after Parcells left but then lost his damn mind this offseason. At least he has a good team of scouts out there still finding talent in the draft which will hide some of his incompetencies in FA management/player re-signings.

Roy was clapping his hands there because there wasn't a CB on him. He was all alone, after he was done clapping his hands a CB ran over to him and covered em'.

At the end of the day, RW may end up being a good WR for the Cowboys -- he certainly has the ability.... however, I do agree with you completely that this was a bonehead move by Jerry. RW could have been had in the off-season without giving up any draft picks -- nobody else in the league would have offered him "2nd highested paid WR in the NFL" money.

Don't sugar coat it.

Marshall and Deion called it out. Our guys can't get separation.

Roy is slow, can't get any space between himself and the defender, obviously doesn't know what routes to run, and he is showing signs of a poor attitude.

He's getting paid like he's the 2nd best receiver in the game, when he's the 3rd or 4th best on this team. Guys like Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Boldin, etc should be furious that Keyshawn 2.0 got paid like that.
