Roy Williams?

I don't know if this has been discussed, but is Roy Williams being set up to play some LB? I saw the Cowboys signed two former Safeties today, and we didn't even lose a Safety. We lost a D-Lineman and a OLB. Got me thinking right away, what are the chances the Cowboys are using the bye week to get Roy Williams some occasional work at LB as a pass rusher, on passing downs, such as late in the game? Has this been discussed?

Interesting point. I don't think it's out of question.

I think if that was the case, we wouldn't sign Dixon and Scott as the two players to replace Roy when he moved up to LB.

Roy is making plenty of plays at the line of scrimmage as it is, why do you feel the need to move him to LB? Doesn't really make sense to me.

I highly doubt it.

I just don't believe we're going to trust Safety to Davis, Pile (injured), Scott and Dixon and move a Pro Bowl caliber guy out of his natural position.

Simple, he's an average Safety when it comes to coverage, yet a great Safety close to the LOS. We have to find a way to disrupt offenses in those final drives, when they are in the two minute drill. Maybe Parcells has seen Roy Williams is struggling in coverage in those situations. So, why not move him up to a LB position, and let him move around and blitz the QB, instead of leaving him hung out in covergae. Put him where he can make an impact. The impact we have lacked at those times. Use him like the Steelers use Troy polumalua....... you know.

We have a lot more quality depth at linebacker than safety.
Also Roy is a big safety but would be a small linebacker and isn't Bill trying to get away from small backers.

Is Roy Williams really a Pro Bowl caliber guy because of his coverage skills?

I can see him being used as a linebacker in a nickel package instead of deep in coverage. I don't know if bringing in Dixon and Scott is a foreshadowing of that, but it just may be a coincedence. Neither of those guys is good in deep coverage either. The team needs depth at safety and both know the system.

I agree Roy could be a nickel Line backer , but I think Scott and Dixon were probably brought back mostly for special teams and a little for depth.
That still only gives us 5 safeties.
The specail teams needs a little help and maybe this will let Davis play fewer snaps to keep him fresh.

Again I think thses 2 were brought in for special teams.

I would like to see him at LB. He pretty much played that way in college and that was the reason I said that I wouldn't mind seeing him at LB back then.

When Roy moved down to LB, Davis took his spot at SS. That's really where Davis belongs anyway. Keep in mind -- this is like maybe 5 plays a game that we use this allignment -- so I think the extra safeties are more for insurance. When Pile gets 100% one of these guys is back on the street.

When Roy comes on a blitz usually we drop a LBer into coverage so why not situationally bring him from the LBer position and have a safety who is theoretically better in coverage than a LBer drop back?
