I know it won't happen, but i'd really like to see people stop acting like Roy is the worst guy in the history of coverage. Ed Reed let Drew Henson throw a TD on him last year too, is he lousy in coverage now? Go back and watch the entire season on tivo like I have, and find me some plays other than 2 plays against Washington where he has looked lost in coverage. He broke up a deep ball against Arizona, so if we're going off one play at a time, he's an all pro cornerback now.

Fact is, he's played well in coverage this year. He makes his greatest impact tackling and rushing the passer, but so do most Strong Safeties. He's a gamechanger, and I wouldn't trade him for any safety in the league.

I agree, Josh... Some Bronco the other day caught a TD right over the head of Brian Dawkins, but I didn't hear anyone say he was horribly overrated... And Polamaulu isn't nearly as destructive in the run game (or on WRs) as Roy.

What does Parcells always say? "He can play on my team." ;)

Like with anything, the truth is somewhere in between. Of course, he is not horrible in coverage. At the same time, he clearly needs to work on his coverage skills.

Dawkins and Reed have been burned. No one has suggested otherwise. Even Deion Sanders was burned on occasion by Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin and he was best cover corner of all time. However, Roy Williams gets burned fairly often for a safety that is considered to be one of the top 3 in the league.

Let's also not forget that all DB's look better when their team has a pass rush. So maybe Roy was the victim of a weak pass rush the previous two seasons to some degree. Just trying to be fair.

Yeah i have always thought that people exagerated about how bad Roy is on coverage, while players like the safety from the Steelers don't get talked about their coverage skills. While Roy could improve his covering quite a bit, he is still solid and he is still a gamebreaker with both hits or getting interceptions. I would take that than just having a guy that can really cover but doesnt make plays that can change the momentum of a game.

My theory is that if he was that much of a liability BP would have let him go a long time ago. He wouldnt keep a guy just cuz he can hit!! Roy Williams is one of the best Strong Safeties in the league. He has incredible instincts and is solid in coverage. The backlash against him is another classic example of fans who think they actually know football and go apeshart after a tough loss like the one to the skins. A majority of this board seems almost anit-Cowboys after we lose, the world is over and the Boys suck.....that seems to be the attitude of a lot of guys around here after we lose, Roy was a victim of this!!

That play had NOTHING to do with Roy's coverage ability. Shockey didn't put a move on Roy and beat him. Roy never even KNEW he was supposed to cover Shockey. He, along with Aaron Glenn, didn't even hear the defensive play called.

No matter how good a corner or safety is, without a passrush he gets burned.

Roy isn't great in coverage but he certainly isn't the worst coverage safety in the league now with Eagles and Ravens not getting pressure on the QB, Reed and Dawkins are getting beat and burned for long gains or for touchdowns.

a true roy williams fan would appreciate him no matter what, you shouldnt stop liking him just because sports center said he cant cover (opinion) because if that was the case then you might as well put ed reed, brian dawkins, and sean taylor under the CANT COVER CATEGORY.I seen them get burnt several times and miss plenty of tackles.
