Colombo wants a new deal which won't be as cheap as his current contract. I seriously hope Coach HH can find a replacement for the '09 season from Marten, Free, or McQ. We have needed to develop a RT ever since E. Williams started to decline. FAs are too expensive to fill your line with.

Dallas can hold off on Colombo until next season.

They will let Colombo go. I like him but we will not have the money to give him $5-7 million a year. Any cap dollars we have next year will go to Newman. We have 3 young tackles on the roster and one will have to step up and man the RT spot in 2009.

If I remember correctly, it's possible that 2009 will be an uncapped year. If that is the case, I wouldn't worry to much about Colombo. He will return, or someone like Free or McQuistan will take his place. The only way Free or McQuistan take his place is if they are at least comparable.

I'm not worried about RT.

I agree. The re-signing of Flo tells me that Dallas is likely very comfortable with what McQ or Free can give them at RT starting in 09. I like Marc but I'd imagine he'll be allowed to leave via FA next y ear and one of those two guys will step in at RT after that.

RT isn't nearly the gamble that LT would have been so I'm ok with this sort of thing if this is how it turns out.

I think we should trade "False Start" Columbo now, while he's healthy. I like what GB did this year with franchising and trading Corey Williams, but I wouldn't like to risk that with Columbo. I think we have three tackles on the roster that could fill Columbo's position. We could get a second or early third for him, certainly.

I'm not considering the cap ramifications of the move, but since it's the final year of his deal anyways, there would be at least some savings.

Columbo has a year left on his contract if he can go out and have a great year who is to say he will not be given a new contract. Right now though there is no rush to extend his contract.

i think jerry is handling colombo just about right. we have him for next year and that gives houck time to see if free is the man or not. i have thought free would be a better rt than lt

I'm saying McQuistan. He might be more suited for that than LT anyway... And that leaves Free to work on the left side.

At some point these young (and cheap) kids have to play.

I agree. But by the time Free and Marten are given a chance to play, their contracts will be up.

There will be a lockout or strike before there is an uncapped year.

Ummm...Thought Flo already had that nickname.

If we cut ties with Columbo next year or so we'll end up looking for another LT too. I really dont see Flo being with us for more than 2-3 years as a starter.
