I've been fairly staunch about the main problem between Dak and Dez being that the ball isn't being put where it needs to be to take advantage of Dez's strength as a receiver, which is being able to go up and win the ball. Romo spoke about that a few weeks back and I agreed with him.
While I still agree with him, there's something else I feel is contributing to the problem: The officials are letting defensive backs get away with a whole lot of contact while the ball is in the air. I believe there were three times in the Philly game where Dak lofted the ball for Dez and a defensive back made contact with him while the ball is in the air. On each of these plays Dez essentially was knocked out of position to try to go up and make a play on the ball.
I'm not saying the defensive backs are doing anything wrong (although one of the plays should have been pass interference) because that's how officials have been letting them play since 2015. However, when your primary receiver has to win off physicality, it's going to affect him more than receivers who win off speed or quickness. When the receiver can't escape the DB with route-running, speed or quick cuts, then all it takes is a simple shove in the back or momentary contact when the ball is in the air to get him out of position to go get it.
