It just means Physically Unable to Perform. In this case it meant the conditioning run that all the players must pass. There is no timetable you have to be on it, but it doesn't operate the same as the Injured Reserve list which effectively ends your season.

:welcome: hope you enjoy it here.

I thought also, that if they are put on that at the end of TC, that they miss 6 weeks or something like that.

I think it works like this -- you can go on the PUP at the start of TC. It means you can't perform for any reason. There is a deadline for being removed from the list, I'd guess at the time of the final cut down. Playter can be removed from PUP -- but not added -- at anytime up to that deadline. After the deadline the player is not eligible for the first 6 weeks of the season. After that 6 weeks, the team has a few more weeks to make the decision whether to activate the guy or put him on IR.

The thing to remember is that we can't put anyone on PUP now. You can do it at the start of TC and that's it.

Folks on this board seem to misunderstand the PUP -- When someone comes up with an injury that will keep him out 6-8 weeks, say in the final pre-season game, PUP isn't an option. Although I'm sure we will have multiple posts calling for guys in this situation to be PUP'ed.

Per the CBA:

http://www.nflpa.org/CBA/CBA_Complete.aspx#p161

Article 32, Section 2, Page 161

Physically Unable to Perform: Any player placed on a Physically Unable to Perform list (“PUP”) will be paid his full salary while on such list. His contract will not be tolled for the period he is on PUP, except in the last year of his contract, when the player’s contract will be tolled if he is still physically unable to perform his football services as of the sixth regular season game.

http://www.nflpa.org/CBA/CBA_Complete.aspx#p167

Article 35, Section 6, Page 167

Pre-Training Camp Period: During the ten consecutive days immediately prior to the mandatory veteran reporting date for each Club’s pre-season training camp (as specified in Article XXXVII, Section 5), no veteran player (other than (i) quarterbacks and (ii) other players who (1) were on the Injured Reserve, Physically Unable to Perform or Non-Football Injury or Illness list at the end of the previous season; or (2) failed a physical examination given by a team physician at any time after the last game of the previous season; or (3) sustained a football-related or non-football-related injury or illness during the off-season; or (4) had surgery during the off-season regarding a football or non-football-related condition regardless of when such condition arose) shall be permitted to participate in any organized workouts or other organized football activity of any kind, or any football activity with any coach, on either a voluntary or involuntary basis, in connection with or on behalf of the Club or Club Affiliate. This prohibition shall apply notwithstanding any other provision of this Agreement, or any provision in any Player Contract. Notwithstanding the above, nothing in this section shall prevent any player from using any Club facility, subject to League rules and the Club’s permission, to work out on his own at any time on a voluntary basis without the participation of any coach, trainer or other Club personnel. Nothing in this Section shall prohibit organized player activity in personal appearances or promotional activities on behalf of the Club or the League which have been agreed to by the player.
