Their numbers aren't adding up. If he got $13 million signing and has $1 million guaranteed base salaries in the 1st 2 years, that doesn't result in $3.6 million cap hits.

The prorated cap hit of 13 million over 6 years is 2,166,666 per season over the life ofthe deal (which will never be played out). With a base salary of 1 million (in the first two years). By my math that equals 3.16 million a year. There's 500k missing that I'm not figuring out.

Well, since the base salary is guaranteed, it can be pro-rated as well. So that would be a $2.333 million cap hit. Bottom line is their numbers are incomplete or just wrong.

It would be a little over $3.1 million, if my calculations are correct. Which might mean his base for the first two years is $1.5 million.

The base salary can only be counted for THAT year. It can't be prorated.

Makes sense.

I don't know Dakota. Bailing on a 6 year deal after year two with a 13 million dollar signing bonus leaves you with a 8.6 million dollar cap hit on the remainder of the prorated portion of the bonus alone. I'm wondering if the 3rd year has a hefty roster bonus. One thing that IS interesting is that it seems his base salary goes up exponentially in the 3rd year (at least that's what I'm guessing). That is the very year that Jones is predicting will be uncapped if the owners opt out of the current CBA. It could be a gamble that Jerry is willing to take to keep this team in general (and o-line specifically) intact to make a run at the Super Bowl. Jerry has learned that the window of opportunity in the NFL is typically small. Two straight years of play-off qualification have netted ZERO results and Jones realizes this team may not have five years to get to the big dance. He may figure, at this point, the risk is worth the potential reward. If, however, another CBA is reached and the salary cap is kept intact, the Flozell Adams contract could come back to bite us very hard when/if his level of play or health begin a rapid decline.

The minute i saw the numbers, i thought the same exact thing. Might be dead wrong, but it's interesting.

We have to wait to see just how this thing is structured. I'm just happy Flo is here and i can live with what the umbers bare out.

"Any salary advance paid on a guaranteed basis" is treated as a signing bonus and must be prorated. If read literally, it'd have to be a "salary advance" to be pro-rated, so I guess it'd depend on whether they "advanced" him the $1 million that is guaranteed or not.

You raise an interesting point. The signing bonus is 13 million, correct? Yet the guaranteed money is 15 million. The only thing I can think of is that there is a clause in the contract that guarantees Adams his base salary in the first two years of the deal in the case of injury or being cut. I can't imagine that it's simply a gentleman's agreement that he'll be here for at least two years. It's guaranteed.

At that rate, 15,000,000 spread over 6 years is a pro rated cap hit of 2.5 million a season. Huh? I'm with you, Theo. Something about these reported numbers are a bit goofy. I'm sure Adam will have this all spelled out for us over the next couple of days.

well, the Dallas Morning News is saying that Dallas does have interest in Walker according to several sources.

Why are we even looking at this guy, we already have 1 WR with a jacked up knee and now we are looking at another.

How bout we draft a WR in the first round that actually has 2 working knees.

And of course everyone knows that newly drafted WRs immediately produce big results the very first year.

Now, I'm totally on board with using a high draft pick on a really good young WR, but we also need a vet WR who can step up to the plate right away opposite TO this year. If Walker is healthy (our medical staff will carefully be checking his knees out), he's got the talent to be the WR we really need this year. I'm not talking about the Cowboys marrying Walker for several years. What I'm hoping is he willing sign a cheap contract with us for maybe 1-2 years to restart his career. What better place to do that then play with a legit SB contender like the Cowboys, who max out on prime television appearances where his play will get lot of attention and, guess what, we also got one of the game's best young QBs who leads an awesome passing attack.

I'm just very concerned Glenn won't be able to play anywhere near the level we need in 08 & feel we can't set still w/o adding a potentially valuable WR to our offensive firepower. If we could afford a FA WR like Berriam, etc that is a different matter but we can't so Walker has shown when healthy he is a legit quality WR. Again, if his knees check out and he willing play for cheap contract & accepts he'll be the #2 WR opposite TO, then I say go for it and sign him.

I disagree. You didn't state it as fact. You were very clear about the reliability (or lack of) the information.

Heck, it's as credible as half the stuff written by the "journalists."

Some of them must end up visiting their proctologist because they are so sore from pulling stories out of their rumps.
