Rumor: Cowboys to pass on Jeanty

The Cowboys didn't even interview Jeanty.
That early of a pick they would be stupid to waste on a running back or a wide receiver or tight end or cornerback. They should target a defensive front 7 player that is an impact player.

What is everyone’s opinion of Josh Simmons OT from Ohio State. Voch and Broaddus have him as a top 5 player and think he is on par with Alt, who was drafted by the Chargers last season.

Why would they interview Jeanty at the combine? That's a waste. They only get 45 and can save Jeanty for a 30 visit.

So not drafting the best player available again. Smart move. Honestly I've gotten used to not caring as much anymore, didn't even watch a full game through this season, first time since 91.
Not drafting a RB in the 1st round is the correct move.

IMO if this true, then there's a chance they feel the same about the loaded DT position. They will use 12 to fill an opening starting position with limited depth in the draft ( think WR, Oline, LBer, CB IMO ) This article makes me think OLine or CB. Stephen Jones says he would hope any player drafted in top 12 will be with the team for at least 8-9 years.
That was JJ theory in drafting Russel Maryland after Rocket Ishmail left for canads

Wanted a decade long player in a high 1st rd draft pik

Pre-draft rumors are 50/50. But if they haven't met with him yet then it sounds like they will not be drafting him in the first round. I do agree with this strategy. This is a deep RB class and I would take two RBs later and feel good about it.

I am coming around to passing on a DT in the first too, for the same reason. There are a lot of DTs in this draft and I can see taking one in the 2nd or even 3rd round and another in the 5th, maybe 2!. I feel that with 10 picks the Cowboys should be loading up on DTs, and RBs, and anyone in the first that looks like he will make an impact, and that includes Tyler Warren - and I never want to draft TEs in the first round.

100% this.

I don’t over draft RB or DT. I look in round 2-4 to fill these needs.

Premium positions with premium picks. Need to look at the cost control you have on the most expensive positions.

QB
WR
OT
DE
DT
CB

Draft process is not complete. Jeanty is a scheduled 30 visit. No need to waste a limited slot at combine for someone you already know you've set a 30 day visit with.

They should target BPA, whomever that may be. I could make an argument for and against nearly any position at 12.

I would take a DT early if there was one that was a sure impact player, like Jalen Carter, or T'Vondre Sweat. I don't see that guy in this draft. I like Graham, and Grant, Harmon and Nolan. But I do not see them as sure things. But, the rest of the DTs in this class are all pretty solid. Getting a guy like Darius Alexander in round 2 would be fantastic. Or Grant for that matter. But some are predicting 4 DTs could go in the first round, including all the guys I mentioned.

The one DT I have soured on is Deone Walker. There was a lot of pre-combine hype about this guy but he just looks so awkward and uncoordinated at the combine there is not chance I take him before the 5th round. He looked so stiff, and high, he is going to get bullied in the NFL if he can't stay lower.

He's a scheduled 30 visit. Combine meetings are but a small piece to puzzle.

I personally tend to agree on RB this year, I favor Booker, Banks or any WR named Golden, Tet, Ebuka.

But I don't know who's sitting there yet. If Carter miraculously fell to 12 That's the pick I don't care who else is there.

I'm out on Walker before 5th. Nolen is so dang intriguing. Still would take Booker, Banks, Tet, Golden,Embuka over him though

Signing Odighizuwa means nothing as far as drafting a DT. You need two good 3T's in todays NFL because you line both up in B gaps 70%-75% of the time. Even if Smith improves he is not a B gap player. Another reason why you dont draft 1T's in the first
This. Exactly.

Jeanty isn’t even the best RB, much less player! Overhyped yes!

I know medicals were said to be positive. It's a knee. 2 years til full strength. Only cause we need players now Id pass.

Id prefer we be selectively aggressive and bring in someone
