I don't think there is any question we upgraded in the coaching area, even if it's just from a culture and tone perspective. This team often lacked accountability and hopefully McCarthy and others bring that back.

It may simply come down to whether or not Jerry gets the hell out of the way and let McCarthy do what he needs to do and let the scouting department and McClay do their thing. I suspect he won't stay out of the latter, but I am hoping for him to hands off on the former.

Garrett was too much of a process guy and a safe guy and play it by the numbers guy to ever be a great coach.

McCarthy is definitely an upgrade, how much remains to be seen.

I ll believe when I see it. And I don't believe for one second he was so impressed with Kellen Moore that has just had to keep him as OC. Certainly wasn't impressed against good teams. Moore being here has Jerry written all over it.

I can’t believe anyone would believe that.

Other teams wanted Moore so Dallas forced him on McCarthy.

Not surprising at all. Garrett never had any backbone except when it came to throwing others under the bus.

Everyone is so optimistic about the upcoming season.

I don't know. A new offense, a new defense, new special teams(though they were the worst in the league). A large turnover in the roster. There are a lot of moving parts. I think it's going to be difficult to win the division, let alone "win it all".

Plus the drama with Prescott still has to play out.

Everything has to fall into place for Dallas to contend, and I mean everything. I'm going to wait till training camp and see the final product before deciding to go all in on this team.

So I’m not going to disclose any names. I work at a Mercedes-Benz dealership and we had a client come in here and purchase a vehicle. This particular client happened to be a player who played for McCarthy and Garrett. He said he was shocked McCarthy took the offer from the Cowboys. When I asked him why, he said that when he got to the Cowboys D Law told him “don’t worry about Jason Garrett, he’s Jerry’s puppet. Just go straight to Jerry.”

That obviously comes as no shock, but it was interesting to hear somebody confirm the locker rooms perspective of Jason Garrett. I asked him why he was shocked that McCarthy took the job and he told me that McCarthy is the complete opposite of Garrett. He is not a puppet. I asked him if he felt like Jerry relinquished his role as being the puppet master and he said “absolutely. That’s the feel in the locker room because McCarthy has wiped out everybody and Jerry would’ve never allowed Garrett to do that. “.

Sounds like a lot of players are shocked because the feel is that McCarthy is the man and he’s the guy you go to now instead of Jerry Jones.

He left me with something that was pretty exciting as we were finishing our conversation... “ we going to take it this year”. I kind of nodded my head and said something to along the lines of I hope so and then he said “trust me, with McCarthy you’re going to see a whole different team this year and we’re going to be a hard team to beat. It’s going to look and feel like a whole new Cowboys team with MM and the coaches he brought in “!
garret and before him Wade were full Jerry puppets....after Johnson we had several puppets too and then came bill parcells. he wasn't jerry puppet, but not immune to jerry meddling. thus McCarthy maynot be a puppet, but he won't be immune to jerry meddling.....if/when the team improves and jerry feels we are a piece away or that he can just do this one thing and put the team over the top because he feels that's what we need, he will shove his way in and do what he wants regardless of what McCarthy says....jerry meddling will not stop

Boom. Another example of why the Forum is awesome.

None this surprises me........been saying, MM is an alpha. Hell, the guy won a Super Bowl for god sake. He gets a year off to reset and now is hungry as ever. Remember how we say give a defensive coor a training camp and he'll find an offense / QB weaknesses? Now apply the same concept to MM having to reset, evaluate and study trends, coaches and players around the league. Damn right I'm excited.....pretty obvious Jerry and Stephen have given him ALL the keys he needs and plans to simply stay the hell out of his way and let him do his thing. It's why I've said during free agency now, be patient, sit back and watch, this is MM time. He's calling every shot we're now seeing ......IMO

If Dlaw actually counselled a new guy like that he should be cut yesterday.

Good stuff. I do agree that it's a change now and already feel better about things than before.

Is it just me, or does it anyone else find it weird that DLaw tells a new guy almost word for word the exact thing posters on here have said about Jason Garrett....I mean the exact phrases and everything.

And even more confusing...how is that the feel of the locker room, when i mean you know...None of the players have been to the locker room since the season ended?

Just asking for a friend
Let’s just say you worked for a particular man and got an offer from another company and took it. The guy you used to work for came and took over your new company. Maybe some of your colleagues reach out to know what to expect? No?

Awesome stuff!

Thanks very much for sharing that conversation and info.

I can't say that I had a similar conversation or anything, but some comments from former McCarthy players that I have heard and read gave me the same impression as your story does.

Former Packers receiver Greg Jennings now signs McCarthy's praises whenever his name is brought up, but that wasn't always the case. When the Packers wouldn't pay him and he hit free agency, he did everything he could to badmouth the Packers, McCarthy, and Aaron Rodgers. And during one of those attempts, he talked about how signing with the Vikings was a much more relaxed atmosphere and how he could 'breathe again', and how he was 'no longer walking on eggshells.' That atmosphere resulted in a 5-10-1 record and the end of abysmal Leslie Frazier era in Minnesota, where the team stuck and Jennings didn't stay too long.

The point is, that in trying to badmouth McCarthy, he actually painted him as a disciplinarian that kept his players in line, and successful.

yeah he had nothing but high praises of MM. He literally called him the scapegoat.
