Run Blocking kinda sucks

Starting to get a little concerned that we aren't able to run the ball better. Pass blocking looks good though.

like i said in another thread, we are a below average run team. we are going to greatly rely on the passing game this year. At least T.O will be happy and the rest of the pass catchers for that matter...

Wait until TO, Glenn and Witten are all on the field. That will help big time.

The running game seemed OK until Adams went out. Passing game looked awesome though. BTW, I take it the title of this thread was suppose to say running O, not D.

CO SIGN AFTER MY BOY HUSTLE AND FLO ADAMS WENT OUT THATS WHEN OUR RUNNING GAME STRUGGLED. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FIELD BETTER BE JJ FAVORITE:laugh1:

Its not like we didn't have any success running the ball...

1st and 10 at DAL 34 (14:24) J.Jones right tackle to DAL 42 for 8 yards (R.Harper).

1st and 10 at 50 (13:16) J.Jones right tackle to NO 39 for 11 yards (R.Harper; J.Bellamy).

3rd and 2 at NO 18 (9:58) M.Barber left end to NO 7 for 11 yards (J.Bellamy).

1st and 10 at NO 17 (2:27) J.Jones up the middle to NO 10 for 7 yards (J.Minucci).

1st and 10 at DAL 37 (7:51) M.Barber left tackle to DAL 44 for 7 yards (E.Kuale).

2nd and 12 at DAL 29 (6:38) T.Thompson right end pushed ob at DAL 40 for 11 yards (R.Williams).

1st and 10 at DAL 43 (5:21) T.Thompson left tackle to NO 32 for 25 yards (J.Lay).

I would say the running game was inconsistant. In between the good runs there were a lot of runs for negative yardage, which drove the overall ypc down. Negative runs usually indicates a mental breakdowns or a lack of communication (or Julius being indecisive in the backfield .. but that's another story). I'm going to give it time. Run blocking is probably one of the most coordinated, orchestrated and collaborative efforts on a football team, which also makes it one of the last things that comes around in preseason. It requires a lot of timing and familiarity among the offensive linemen, and its hard to aquire any of that when you're rotating guys every other series and trying them out at new positions. I'm not going to hit the panic button on it just yet. Let's see how they look in the final preseason game once Parcells has stopped moving everyone around, decides on a first string and let's them practice together for a couple of weeks.

i missed the game (got it dvr'd) but I was concerned as I was on my way home and hearing JJ had 14 carries for 29 yards. Then I watched the first half and noticed JJ had some pretty good runs. He would've had a decent line if the offensive line had kept him from being blown up in the backfield.

Bright spot and something to look forward to, Fasano made several nice blocks in the run game last night.

Looked like it took a hit when Flo went out. Maybe just coincidence.

Hmm...thought the running game looked pretty decent for the most part. The YPC doesn't really show it, but I thought we were able to move the ball running when we needed to.

Rich.........

Way too much leakage- no seals. Our TE's could not seal to save their lives. And movement by the line was very clumsy. I HOPE most of that will get better as the starters get more time to work together, but I still saw a lot of the same as last year: defenders in the backfield waiting for our backs to take the handoff.
