Rate the last movie you saw

Two Aussie movies with the same main character.

They also went on to make a two season show





They also made an Origin tv series



It has one season but appears to be coming out with a season two sometime this year.

I have watched both movies and liked them.
Watched the first season of regular series.

They are slow but good. Kind of reminds me a little of longmire but slightly different due to the area and aboriginal/white issues of the past.
 
Although not part of the above franchise....you still might like this one...

 
Trapt – Watched it last night. It had its moments, but overall it felt out of touch with reality and just didn’t land for me. Entertaining enough to sit through, but nothing I’d recommend. M. Night Shyamalan is such an interesting filmmaker. His work really feels like a coin toss. Some of his movies are genuinely intriguing or enjoyable, while others completely miss the mark or just come off as flat-out silly.

First off, I have a hard time buying the idea of trying to catch a serial killer at a major concert by randomly shaking down the crowd. C’mon, that just feels silly. Second, why doesn’t the killer, Cooper, just walk out of the venue? How do they even know he’s the guy? For all they know, he could just be another dad taking his daughter to a show.

But the biggest issue for me is Cooper’s insane luck. I mean, this dude has Domino from Deadpool 2 levels of luck. Everything goes his way. He gets the password from an arena worker like it’s nothing, casually sneaks into restricted areas, walks right into a police meeting unnoticed, and even throws explosive canisters into a fryer without anyone blinking. When he does get stopped on the roof, he just happens to have the right ID badge on him......because of course he does.

Then somehow, he finds the artist’s personal assistant, gets himself and his daughter backstage, and eventually ends up alone with this world-famous singer in her dressing room? Seriously? And once the cops are onto him, he still moves around like he’s invisible.

I get that it’s Hollywood, but man, throw in a little realism to keep the suspense grounded. It was all just way too perfect for this guy, and it really pulled me out of the movie.
 


I caught this the other night. It is Die Hard without the Christmas. Daisy Ridley is the hero in this one. It is not as action packed as Die Hard and it doesn't always flow as smoothly as Die Hard. Ridley is less annoying, slightly, than she is the the Star Wars films, but I think those movies try to make her annoying.

This movie is a 5.

But one thought did occur to me, Daisy Ridley may have been the better choice for Ellie in the Last of Us. She's attractive but not too much so. She's athletic looking, but still feminine. The English accent my be a problem but most English actors can pull off a decent American accent. The one problem might have been her age. I don't know if she could pull of thee look of a 14 year old girl at this point. She is in her 30s now. Bella Ramsey is only 21 but looks younger.

It's ok. Nothing new. Chances are if you like the other Wick movies, you will like this one.

Sinners: 7/10

Could have been WAY better. I wish they would have leaned more into the lore of the music instead of wasting so much time setting up disposable characters. It was great seeing Delroy Lindo in something. I haven't seen him in a long time in a movie. Michael B. Jordan was good playing twins.

There's some awesome pieces of cinematography, including an amazing sequence that is hard to describe, that has to do with music transcending the natural world.

The movie is mostly just a From Dusk Til Dawn knockoff, however.

 
My wife and I came upon Death of a Unicorn. I can’t begin to tell you how dumb this movie is. I was shocked because it had Paul Rudd, Ortega, Tia Leone, and a few other known actors.
 
Been awhile...

The King of Kings - 5/10. I don't know. I just didn't feel this was very engaging at all. The animation wasn't impressive at all. The presentation dragged a bit and didn't really offer much besides basic key points known to almost everyone.

Drop - 5/10. Meh. Not terrible. Just nothing to write home about.

The Amateur - 6/10. It was okay. Nothing too original. Nothing too exciting either.

Sinners - 6.5 or 7/10 - Very well put together, though I think slightly overrated. It dragged in a few spots for me. Very similar in many ways to From Dusk til Dawn, and if I had to choose between the two which would be my goto, I'd still go with From Dusk til Dawn.

The Accountant 2 - 8/10. Similar to the first, but a vastly different tone. Barenthol's brother character is much more present this time around and he steals pretty much every scene he is in. He and Affleck play great off of each other, and the film is a bit lighter and a lot more humorous than the previous movie, while still keeping it serious for the scenes that require it. I think it's a much more balanced, and just more "fun" that it's predecessor.

Thunderbolts* - 8/10. This is finally a good Marvel movie. It's been awhile. A mix of dark and humorous with a plot that actually has some depth to it. It's not top tier, but it's definitely way above the vast majority of the slop they've been pushing for awhile now.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - 6/10. Kind of a mess. Way too many flashbacks, particularly early on. "Villain" is not compelling at all, and the plot is a major stretch. Dead Reckoning of course had some similar issues regarding the plot, but it was tighter and executed better. The action is mostly restricted to the end, and while the work they did on them was impressive, I wasn't invested in the movie as much as I had hoped to be at that point, so they weren't as engaging as they should have been. Thinking maybe they should have stopped after Fallout.

Lilo & Stitch remake - 6/10. Eh, it was okay. Some of the changes were dumb, but Stitch himself is still pretty much the same. Not bad, but no real improvements or interesting additions to the original.

Final Destination: Bloodlines - 6/10. Pretty much what you would expect from a Final Destination movie. Not all that intelligent or clever, has a lackluster ending, and (I think) contradicts some of the series logic. But people just watch these for the crazy deaths.

Ballerina - 7/10...I guess. It's a John Wick movie that's not quite at the same level as the actual John Wick movies. His presence feels a little tacked on and doesn't quite make sense. Like they felt they needed to add more of him after initial screenings or something. The action is solid, De Armas is beautiful, and the story is simple...it's fine.

Karate Kid Legends - 7/10. I wish this was a little bit longer. The first half takes its time and develops some nice relationships. Then the 2nd half kind of rushes through a little to get to all the fighting. It's still enjoyable and definitely more in line with the other Daniel based movies, and not the dreadful Next Karate Kid.

How to Train Your Dragon Remake - 5/10. The original movie is a 9/10 for me. It's better than this soulless remake in ever possible way with the exception of the CG for the dragons. The costumes on this (sticking to close to something that works for animation) come across as cheap cosplay. Some of the sets look okay, but the way everything is shot, none of it really looks great, and certain parts look very cheap/fake (the "pit" Toothless is trapped in until he can fly for example). Butler's acting is still solid, but everyone else has at least some lines that are delivered awkwardly. The supporting group of trainees are uninteresting and not funny in the slightest. Additions don't do much except to mess up the pacing. The strength of the original story that this pretty much copies verbatim is what keeps the score from being lower.

F1 The Movie - 8/10. Pretty solid and entertaining movie. A simple story told very well. Much like Top Gun: Maverick (though I don't think quite as good). I think this will play much better in my theater at home as my local theater is unfortunately turning down the volume at late, losing a lot of the dynamics and punch some of these movies should offer.
 


Very disturbing in some areas. Chicken Leg will never be seen the same again.

I tried watching Old Guard 2 on Netflix last night. I fell asleep a couple of times so I have to watch it again. But from what I saw was kind of lame. I'll try to watch it again tonight maybe.

What I did see, it sets up for another sequel. The question is will Netflix actually film it or cancel it?

I have been waiting for it. Loved the original film. Hopefully, this sequel will not be disappointing.

Honestly, from the trailers, it looks like they really pushed the B.A. female angle, which is a stupid thing to do, if they're doing it just to do it.

That may be the case. I think several examples (at least) of that perspective are embedded in the original film, also. Other things, like a bad plotline or direction, tend to put me to sleep, which is what I think @Creeper may have been alluding to.

As I have mentioned in the past, I view all fictional work as make-believe. Any strong female role characterization (or multiples of them) in movies and television series are entertaining to me. I have a huge imagination, so I almost always enjoy how those kinds of depictions fill it.

I have absolutely nothing against strong female characters, and I love the first Old Guard...and of course, Buffy, Wanda, Natasha and Yelena (I even liked the Black Widow movie, with all those bad*** women. There was a specific reason for their being female, and a ton of training...and they were all believable.)...and of course, Buffy.

I just find it cheesy, when they have to girl boss something, just to cater to... whomever.

That said, they set up what seems to be the plot of this one, in the first one, so maybe they're not just simping. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
