Run defense scares me

First off, I’m not discounting the win today. That was a solid team effort and the offense really showed out, which is encouraging.

But I am becoming more and more concerned with the run defense, especially the lack of support in the box. Teams have routinely run rampant against us, but the Eagles game was worse than usual, and today’s game was terrible. The DTs and LBs are getting routinely bullied

If they can’t figure this out, it will once again be a main reason we lose in the playoffs.

What’s the main issue and what can realistically be done to fix it, mid season?

Good post Woot.
Good team win.
Great job by the offense today.

To be honest, I am not sure if the run defense can be fixed at the halfway point to the season. But I am just a fan spectator.

I hope Quinn can improve it.

If you dont milk the clock with the offense, the defense gets tired.

yes, that includes the rushing defense .

Stylistically this defense will always be a liability against the run. They are focused on getting up field and do not play with lane discipline. This results in massive plays and huge sack numbers, but you’re going to get burned a few times by running QBs. This is just the nature of the unit and DQ’s philosophy. I am more than willing to live with it since you will not be seeing QBs like Fields in the playoffs.

Lucky, we only have to worry about a few teams, Eagles unfortunately one of them.

Great team win. I think the defense playing with such a big lead all day was playing more to keep any big plays down the field. For this game anyway, I think the rushing numbers are skewed due to us playing the pass. It's definitely not a good feeling to give up that much rushing yardage, but when you consider the Bears are a very good rushing team with a qb that is a better runner than passer, and the lopsided score, you have to feel a bit better about it.

Started fo run out of safeties in the 4th quarter nice to see Marquise Bell get some snaps . The Bears are run centric like no other team and down double digits early and often good luck keep running the ball Eberflus they don’t have the defense to make that work .

I never felt threatened by this 1950’s offense .

Defense tends to get worn down faster than the offense. It’s a good thing we have our bye coming up. After carrying this team for the past few weeks, an off game is understandable. As long as they don’t look like this coming out of the bye, I’m not going to worry. The run defense is a bit concerning but again, I’ll give them time to gather themselves and come up with a better plan for these run heavy teams.

Don’t be scared the Bears are the best running team in football. Once we jumped in front 21-7 weird things started happening and the defense began to wear down. A horrible penalty on Gholston and a bad fumble reversal kept the Bears offense on the field. The third quarter defensive touchdown basically gave the Bears the ball for the whole quarter. The offense had like 4 snaps for the last 8 minutes of the second and all of third quarter.

the run defense on standard runs is average at best

the run defense with a scrambling qb is bad....they have to get these read options under control
I have not seen one team stop the read option when the defense is on the field for over 35 minutes. When the defense needed to stop the Bears they did.

I think the Bears are a unique situation.

There's not many teams in the NFL that will continue to pound the rock when down double digits like they do.

I said in the game thread, can you imagine us sticking with the run down 3 scores? We would never run it again...

Unique as in 7-10 and a fairly high draft pick every round . I like Fields but that new GM / Coach scouts need to get him some wideouts .
