Even more than the stupid penalties and stupid play calls, what really killed us was the Dallas defense inability to stop the run. It seemed like every other SF run was for over 10 yards.

Run yard totals:
Cowboys - 77
49ers - 169

The better teams we played this season stuffed the ball down our throats and out our backsides.

its not so much the total yards at the end...although giving up that much bothers me...but the drive next to last drive....8 minutes left. their offense struggling. we are within one score....and we give them a 6 minute drive. essentially killing any chance...and then 2 minutes left...the offense lays an egg. yet again.

Agree, makes me sick that we had opportunity and blew it yet again.

If the offense puts points on the board you expose a team like that quickly.

Stop worrying about the defense and ask why your offense goes into a shell in these types of games. That’s the problem.

Our defense is built to cause a sack / turnover frenzy against pass happy teams.

the offensive line, both with the execution and penalties cost us the game ..ill paste and cut this on all threads looking for answers. they torpedoed so many drives i lost count.:mad::(

all those plays all game before that especially on the drive before and after halftime is on dak?> the sunlight the OL mistakes being behind the chains. I mean its blatantly obvious to actual fans to why we lost the game

the OL that's if. Other penalty's come in 2nd like pre-snap on the DL what 3 of them?

real fans who aren't emotional right now see why we lost...mistakes on the lines you win and lose in the trenches, and it cost us on both sides.

Just like a couple years ago in the playoffs. The Rams ran for over 300 yards. We have been waiting for that run stuff DT for years and years.

Our Run defense outside the opening possession was actually fine. Deebo is slippery yes but I thought we did a real good job of shutting down SF's run in the 2nd half especially in the 4th quarter.

If our offense had any time of possession at all the stats would tell that story

Dak and the offense blew this game. To blame the defense is nonsensical, respectfully

This defense is light years better than 2018...the problem was our offense and lack of running game, time of possession, etc.

We shut their run game down in the 4th quarter

Dont get me wrong I absolutely think this defense can improve its run defense, but i'm not putting this game on the run defense at all.

My biggest issue is probably the first drive, really two where this defense just got punched in the mouth, and didnt look ready for anything that was thrown at them. Problem 2 was the penalties. Hands to the face in a crucial time? two defensive holding calls? One that was completely meaningless to the outcome of the play? Cmon...

The 49ers though are a team that bases their whole offense around the run game. With 38 rushing attempts you are almost always going to give up 150+ yards. The start was terrible but they adjusted well and only allowed 23 points, and started limiting the 3rd down conversions. They played well enough to win the game, and really is the reason this game was even close. This game was lost because the offense couldn't sustain drives.

difficult to stop a power run game with nickel defense.

those 2 LBs have to cover 3 gaps each.

btw, LVE had an awesome game. so did Micah.

Our offense goes into a shell because our running game is terrible and Dak hasn't seen the field right since week 8.
Our lack of commitment to the run game is also a large part of the problem.

With this defense it's all we had to do was run it all night , hold the ball and play action.
