One of the reasons I think Scott Chandler is being brought up now is to help the run game. He is a better blocker than Gronkowski, so they can bring him in as an H-back to help the run.

Deon was a better blocker than Gronkowski as well, but Gronkowski brings more as a runner and receiver. I do know Gronkowski can improve in blocking with some bulk added by the strength coaches. I think he will. He's a smart football player.

I said earlier this year that the loss of John Phillips was going to hurt this team more than people realize. Phillips is a better blocker than Chandler is. But at least we are going to stem the drop off a little.

Yeah, he's a pretty big kid. Let's hope that he is a willing blocker and can indeed help in the running game. It also sounds like he can catch the ball as well.

Drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the 4th round of the 2007 NFL Draft . . .Moved from wide receiver to tight end during 2004 fall practice . . . moved past 1,000 career receiving yards with 52 yards on five receptions in win over Iowa State and latched on to career reception No. 100 in loss at Michigan . . . ranks 17th in career receiving yards with 117 catches for 1,467 yards . . . ranks second in catches and yards among Iowa's all-time tight ends.

I liked him coming out as a short to mid range receiving TE.

Not much of a blocker because he lacks toughness and strength.

Went to HS at Southlake Carroll.

what is going to be REAL nice is that by next year Gronk and Phillips ought to be quite the tag team match

I agree.

I think Phillips is more vital than people realize.

I think Phillips will eventually make Bennett tradeable, though Bennett has made some good catches this season.

i have said that over and over, give ski about 5 months in offseason conditioning with strength coaches, etc, and he will get stronger, and with a year of experience will be that much better.

im not saying ski will be a superior fullback, but a very decent fullback, better than deon anderson was because of his versality of running and catching the ball, while getting stronger in offseason

Not the case at all.

Things can change after high school.

I was simply pointing out that he was from the Dallas area.

He was weak and not much of a blocker coming out of Iowa.

The third string tight end is not going to make a difference in the run game imo. We've been allowing penetration up the middle with all of the pulling and crazy blocking schemes that Garrett uses. Until that changes, the run game won't see any consistent improvement.

They will never fix the run game until they replace 4 of the 5 o-line. Pick a blocking scheme and stick with it. Too much delays and trickery to really take their approach serious.

I disagree. I watched him play for four years.

He's 6'7 so he plays with high pad level at times, but when he plays with good technique he is a very good blocker. You can't play tight end at Iowa if you can't block. It just doesn't happen.

So we're countiong on a guy off the practice squad who's already been cut by two teams to improve our running game... That's comforting.

Hey 'Dog,' the team likes him and he is healthy, big, has good hands, runs well for a huge man, and can block. You want stenographer skills also?

What the hell does height have to do with playing H-back? John Phillips is 6'5" and 265 pounds. Chandler is only 7 pounds heavier.
