The debate is raging on about why we did not run like this last year and this might help understand what happened and why.
Rushing in 4th quarter +/- 7 pts
2013: 44 att, 127 yrds 2.9 ypc
2014: 28 att, 108 yrds, 3.9 ypc
3rd down 1 or 2 yards to go
2013:14 att, 22 yrds, 1.6 ypc
2014: 12 att, 45 yrds, 3.8 ypc
Garrett took over play calling after the bye week in 2013.
Running per month
Sept: 89 att, 409 yrds, 4.6 ypc
Oct: 85 att, 236 yrds, 2.8 ypc
Nov: 75 att, 376 yrds, 5.0 ypc
Dec: 87 att, 483 yrds, 5.6 ypc
Keep in mind the bye happened mid November.
Nov post bye: 50 att, 251 yrds, 5.02 ypc
The pass/run ratio
Pre bye: 64/36
Post bye: 61/39
Not a staggering change but in 5 of the 7 games post bye the pass/run ratio was 55/45. So it seems that as Frederick and Leary improved Garrett became more comfortable running more. The drafting of Martin finished the deal.
