Run Stopping

This has been an issue for us all year. Vanderesh is killing us in this area, but I can’t help but put some blame on the coaches for being unwilling to change. I know they have gotten some production from Kearse, but on rushing downs We need to have a bigger LB in there. I know we don’t have a ton of good LB’s, but Dallas has kept Gifford, so let the guy play more on running downs. He adds about 25 lbs over Kearse. That makes a difference.

I was shocked to see us in the same formation all night. We could have put in an additional DT and heavier LB on running downs. Put Kearse at a legit S position and still have him closer to the line of scrimmage. Just do SOMETHING to try to help ensure you are not going to get beat by a QB with a splint on his middle finger.

Also, how about the coaches get our CB’s to stick their nose in there. I loved it to see Lewis make a tackle on the line of scrimmage last night. We see it against us all the time.

I agree LVE is useless as a run stopper.

That said, I thought we actually played pretty well yesterday. Ingram and Montgomery, their primary RBs, ran for only 49 yards on 14 Carrie’s (3.5 YPC).

I don’t get bent too out of shape when a running QB gets yards because you have to play him honest due to the threat of him passing.

If we had run stuffing DT's, then LVE would not need to be relied on to stop the run as much. He could actually do what he is supposed to do.
Which at times he can help stop the run, other times be in pass coverage, or even rush the QB.

Need to take it in perspective, and not blame a player constantly, as other thing are in play also.
