We do not do well on third and one/two running the ball. I love our three headed monster, but we need to be more creative on third and short- these guys are not big enough to go up the middle on these downs. Maybe get Lousaka in the mix or find our evrsion of the " Fridge".

oh we have him.......his name is Marcus Spears

played tight end in high school only 5 years ago, the big boy would have some serious momentum.

I'm all for increasing Lousaka Polite's role on offense, but short yardage/red zone running is all about "want to", IMO.

Great running teams have success in such situations, we aren't such a team and it's unknown if that's going to change as the season moves forward.

Plowing the Cards is a start, but come on, it was the Cards. We're supposed to run over teams like that.

But a start is a, well, start.

I agree to an extent, but we're particularly handicapped by Bledsoe's immobility on red zone plays. He's no threat to bootleg and not even comfortable in a moving pocket. It makes it easier for a defense to tee-off on our backs in those situations. Key's found a niche as a fade threat in the red zone, but that play is a dog against top corners. As for short yardage, I think we're getting better. It's the third and long "give ups" that frustrate me. I can actually "feel" Parcell's choke chain around Payton's neck. Nothing that some more wins won't fix.

The default play used to be Spears at FB. The only problem is we telegraphed the play because we never ran anything different when Spears went in there. Some game in a crucial time we will run that play and Bledsoe will bootleg out and flip a TD to Witten.

I can't tell how much of the blame goes to the running backs as opposed to the line. Is Barber/Jones/Thomas/Thompson simply not finding the hole or punching it in hard enough, or is the offensive line not setting the tone on the third-and-shorts?

It seemed like every time Barber attempted one of those today, he was met in the backfield. Is he making a poor read or is the offensive line waving people through?

Good observation though.

I heard Phil Simms say today, that when he had Bavaro as his tight end, he wasn't using him much because he always thought he was covered and his coach told him to throw Bavaro the ball no matter what.

Hopefully Parcells will tell Drew the same thing, "Throw the ball to Witten in the red zone!"
