Running Dak

It’s a band-aid for sure. But unfortunately Dak is not a pocket passer. If you’re putting him under center you have to use his mobility in some situations to truly get your money’s worth. And he’s all we have. Rush and White are not feasible options. So you’ve got to go with Dak and get the most out of him that you can.
Hey, I agree... Still sad that it's come to this though.

Running Dak will likely be more effective than Dak in pocket but I seriously question his sustainability and giving contract to that type of QB would be extremely risky.
I am not arguing for giving Dak a contract. I am trying to find a way to win ballgames in 2018.

Planned runs for your QB is a bad idea, let him use that tool as a last resort.

Our offense is so limited and predictable.......teams not only know we are a run first offense, but that Zeke runs the ball on first down on the opening drive......it was like we gave them a copy of the game plan because it doesn't change regardless of who we're playing.....this offense is generic and predictable.

Isn't Dak a QB ? Aren't they primarily suppose to pass the ball? We already have a Star HB. How about we get a QB who can Pass the ball and forget these goofy run Dak RPO dreams of production.....
I don’t think Dak is the QB of the future. I did at one point but sadly I think that died last year. However, just because he’s not the long term answer doesn’t mean he’s not the best option we have right now.

Is that really in this teams best interest? You have owner/GM who has essentially failed for last 22 years. Maybe they need for this thing to bottom out.

I watched the Carolina game today and Cam ran it probably double digit times. And while he wasn’t ripping off 8-10 yards each time it was enough to keep the defense honest. I agree it’s a bad idea if you have a stud QB that doesn’t need smoke & mirrors to be successful. But that’s not Dallas. This is a bad offense that doesn’t have the luxury to put something like running Dak on the back burner. If it has the potential to work, use it 8-10 times a game in close contests. There was a 3rd and short early that screamed for a Dak keeper that ended up in a punt. You move the chains there, who knows what happens?

I felt like there were near double digit designed run plays for Dak against NYG. Then today in a game where nothing was working and Dallas badly needed to jumpstart the offense Dak was back in bubble wrap (2 official rushes I think with one being a give up). In fact at least one zone read where he gave it to Zeke (only to get stuffed), Dak could have ran it forever. Honestly, what are we protecting? Run the guy. Run him a crap ton if you have to. He’s worthless if you don’t use his legs.
AGREED

but, Stephen Jones.

They were not designed runs for Dak Prescott.

Dallas almost never calls a designed QB run.

The read option allows for either the RB or QB to run the ball depending on how the defense reacts.

When the unblocked edge defender crashes down on the perceived inside hand off to Ezekiel Elliott, Dak is supposed to pull the ball back and run into that vacated area.

If that player stays in his lane to respect the threat of Dak keeping the ball, Zeke gets the inside hand off and has one less defender to worry about.

I might start thinking that when we’re 2-8 or something. When we’re 1-1 and with a defense that looks good I’m hoping we can beat a garbage Seattle team. After tonight, I’m reevaluating for sure. Ha.

Nah. Even David Moore said he talked to people at the Star and most of Dak’s runs last week were designed QB keepers. It was part of the plan last week.

Seriously?
“Some games present themselves that way,” said offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. “I was a little more inclined to do it last week, because they were giving it to us. The week before, they were not going to let Dak run on the zone-read game or any of that stuff.”
“Each week is going to be different, but he certainly can impact the game positively with his legs,” Linehan said.
If they let him keep it on the zone-read, he’s going to make them pay,” Elliott said.
“I leave that to Coach Linehan and the offense,” Prescott said Thursday. “We have that threat in, so when that threat is there you never know – it depends on how the defense plays it.”
Against the Giants, play-caller Scott Linehan had him involved early. On the Cowboys’ second series, Prescott kept the ball on a read option and ran 15 yards around left end for a first down.
“Running is something that kind of comes naturally,” Prescott said. “Coming into this week, the quarterback run was something that we kind of wanted to attack. We knew this defense was going to give us that.
