Runs from Shotgun way too predictable

We need to transition from shotgun to under center formations in short yardage more often.

This entire equation means nothing will change as long as Garrett is in charge.

Yes. I have noticed it. Dak has some flaws, and one of them is that he is just not comfortable taking snaps under center. He prefers to be in shotgun.

I am fine with shotgun in obvious passing situations— but it is not a great formation to run out of.

If the coaching staff was any good they'd force Dak to face his short comings during camp and preseason. Passing from under center should be one of those addressed problems. Because, as it stands right now him being under center or in the shotgun is a give away of play calling, to the opposition. JMO.

I've noticed the same.

The pistol handoffs keep Zeke and Dak from having any momentum on handoff. Zeke has no head of steam and Dak is less of a threat.

So much waste.

That doomed 3rd down run was actually an ok call, just piss poor execution/miscommunication between Williams and Frederick. That block probably would of failed even under center too with how the DT exploded the gap and Frederick couldn't reach him in time.

I hate how long it takes Dak to get his hand/arm out of the way when handing off. Is it this new rpo thing, Im not sure. It just seems Elliot has to wait an extra second before he can begin his forward momentum. They need to make handoffs more fluid. This isnt new either.

I've never heard Dak isn't comfortable under center. Where did you get that from?

That's the RPO, Dak reading the defense before letting the ball go.

It was an OK run against that look, but it was a terrible call after the run didn't work on the previous play, especially with how the passing game was absolutely torching them.

And I was hoping for a pass there, too. Especially since Zeke wasn't having that much success outside of 3-4 yards here and there.

Zeke picks up a first down in 2 attempts running from I formation. I guarantee that. This shotgun running **** is the worst thing I've seen in my life.

That was almost impossible reach block for Frederick, don’t know if 52 screwed up or if that’s the blocking scheme. If it’s the scheme then it needs to be revamped.

It's not predictability that is the problem - we pass from the shotgun as much or more than we run. It's more that the run is slow developing from the shotgun rather than having the RB hit the hole with a running start. That can be a benefit at times because the RB has a chance to see the blocking before he commits to a hole, but it can be a disadvantage at times, especially with a penetrating defense or if we are having trouble sustaining blocks.

The problem is that Dak struggles with passing out of traditional 3 and 5 step drops. So, Moore and Linehan prior have to call plays around this limitation. Dak rarely ever passes the ball when playing under center. You might as well telegraph to the defense that you are about to run the ball.

The read option run is becoming very predictable. It does not give Zeke the ability to go outside. He constantly is running in to 7, 8 man fronts.
Can we borrow the running plays from the Vikings? A sweep or toss, misdirection, draw would be amazing for this running game.
I am still so disappointed on how the Vikes just schooled us with simple screens off of PA. The Vikes only had one way to beat us and we could not stop them. If that isn't coaching I don't know what is.
Our defense is effective when it plays less than 30 minutes. This game we played 33.5 minutes.
The Vikings were in third and manageable the whole game as opposed to us. Dak had to play superhero converting 3 & not likely the whole game and this trend will kill us against better opponents.
To me simple coaching can really improve this team but I believe JG is so scared to do anything that he will do nothing. Classic paralysis and over analysis.
I think adding a few designed QB runs would really help this offense especially early in the game to keep the O on the field. The last few games we seem to move the ball early but then bog down before reaching red zone or makeable FG range.
Grind out early third downs, do not snap the ball until there are 6 seconds on the game clock. The biggest strength of a team is to know its weakness.
