Were we high on Cooper Rush last year or what? I remember a few (you know who you are) calling for him to start over Dak. Of course there are always the fanatical fanatics.

Let's be honest Rush came here as an UDFA with the words "average arm", "pocket smart", "good decision maker" coming along with him. What did he do last year? Step in and unseat the Linnehan's favorite project, little kellen.

This year? With the exception of the Arizona game, about the same as last. Good pocket presence, average arm, some mobility, good care of the ball. What happened against Arizona? He played against the competitions starters, that's what happened and he played with most of the second team as team mates. Not totally a fair game but we got to see him against starting quality competition. White fared a bit better, with the caveat, against the other teams second and third stringers.

Now it's cut Rush and keep White! What??? Sign a veteran!! What? Don't you guys remember 2015 at all

Stay the course with Rush, no rush to judgement

For me I would rather have a vet backing up Dak. Dak himself is still young and having an experienced QB who can come into a game in a pinch and who can also tell Dak what he saw on any given play I think benefits Dak. I don't see another young QB being a big help. I think when you have an older QB it is great to have a young guy being groomed behind him but with a young QB I would rather have a vet working behind him. As for Rush or White? If I had to pick, White has more physical tools to work with and would like to see him on the PS. Nothing personal against Rush

If they make any moves at bringing in a vet QB. They may wait until after game 1.
Unless there is a QB on waivers that they just can't pass up.

And I would not put it past this team to still keep both Rush and White.

And if Rush is to be the back up as you say, would you not want him to have looked better against a teams #1 D?
maybe not great, but better than he did. Though he did not have our OL or Zeke out there. But I still expected better.

So, you want a guy with an average arm whose never taken an NFL snap as the primary back-up? What???? Don't you remember Jon Kitna? Newsflash: Cooper rush would not have improved upon the 2015 season.

I think about it like this...I firmly believe teams should invest a 4 or 5th round pick on a QB almost every year. Of course this is in lieu of having a shot at a franchise QB when you are in rebuilding mode. Why? There are many quality QBs in the NFL that are not top picks. Brady, Wilson, Cousins and Dak are some recent examples. If you scout and develop well (which Dallas struggles with) you will eventually land a solid QB. If that guy is a starter that is huge because of the cap value. Most teams capitalize on that. The idiots in this FO have not with Tony and Dak because, well, their idiots. If you get an extra QB they become good backups or offer trade value - like Jimmy G. Cooper Rush is a UFA and to me he looks like it. Romo early in his career had obvious talent and swagger. Rush has none of that and a small fraction of Romo's athletic ability. Its because the Dallas FO is bottom of the barrel that we find ourselves with a 2nd year UFA as a backup. White, at least, has an NFL arm and to me some presence in the pocket. I see none of that with Rush. IMO the choice is obvious. Cut Rush immediately as he has zero chance to be a starter. Keep White and continue to develop. Pick up a vet off the scrap heap for 1 year. Hopefully White develops as a quality option or backup. Continue drafting QBs - next year we have a couple 4's so its perfect.

And pray Dak doesn't get hurt.

No to 3 QBs. But I keep saying it. If Dak goes down our season is over regardless of who the back up is. We aren't getting Nick Foles. The Eagles are the only team in the NFL that can win a championship with a back up QB.

LIke who Cassell, Sanchez, any back up worth a darn is not going to be on the street you may end up with the likes of RG Ouch my Knee, Tyrod Taylor, yes vet may give a better chance to win so you go from a snowballs chance to hell freezing over.

I would not carry 3 QB's.

We can get rush on the practice squad most likely.

Mike White has some talent and he's going to take the backup job eventually. Just give it to him now.

I like your though process. I don't think another team will sign him. Heck, I not sure another team would sign White. I think Dallas should scan the waivers and see if a better option presents itself.

I thought that with a year of practice that Rush would be amazing.

White has higher upside than Rush.

Familiarity with the offensive scheme, & the lack of repetitions with quality offensive lineman is what White lacks.
White has the arm strength, deep ball accuracy, & nice touch on indeterminate routes.

I think the play is to cut Rush and keep White. Rush will go to PS. No one will claim him. And God forbid Dak gets hurt, White can finish the game. And Rush can be called up the next week as the #2.

I've been rough on Rush lately so I can concede to the OP. He was given the worst circumstances possible that even veteran QBs would have trouble looking much better. Same goes for White. You have Chaz allowing free runs at him. How are you supposed to evaluate anyone under those circumstances?

The other night White was efficient but he had no pocket awareness.

All I know is he showed off a heck of an arm in college making tough throws.

With a little time he could be pretty good.

The only issue I have with White is his lack of pocket presence. That's a turnover waiting to happen.

True. But hopefully he’s playing with the first team OL if he ever has to play. He can improve ball security with practice. Rush can’t get a stronger arm.

As a backup I would rather get someone who has a chance to make plays as opposed to watching deer caught in the headlights. Sorry Rush nor White is ready, not even close to being ready. Dallas has brought in older vets before to backup and while you will not find a world beater often you can find a guy who can keep the ship afloat until the starter returns. Would I take an RG3? yes, Taylor? Yes

You're absolutely correct. A vet has A lot more experience than some young noodle arm.
