Who saw this coming? I know most analysts and fans in general (including myself and most on this board) thought that signing Russel Wilson would make the Broncos immediate contenders. We could not have been more wrong. Through 5 weeks the guy looks like one of the worst starting QBs in the league. Combine this with the fact that Denver surrendered a king's ransom in order to get him (five draft picks, including two first-rounders, two second-rounders, and three players).

So far this year he has put up a 36.9 QBR, 59.4% comp %, 1,254 yds, 4 TDs, and 3 ints. You can get that production out of pretty much any backup you trot out there. Now imagine you are only 5 games into a five-year, $245 million extension with $161 million guaranteed.

As if the garbage on field product is not enough, word on the street is that everyone in the organization views him as a total phony. Apparently he is a total fake and has a superiority complex. This could be false, but apparently people around the league that have worked with him are backing it up.

Denver fan forums are completely ablaze right now and it pretty much resembles the burning of Rome. I live in Denver and many of my friends are diehard Broncos fans and honestly I've never seen a fanbase go from convinced they were going to win a Super Bowl in the next few years to so utterly demoralized faster than this season.

I have a feeling this could completely derail the Denver franchise for the better part of the next decade. You don't come back from something like this unless Russ manages to return to form (though I would argue he was never amazing to begin with and just happened to play on a team with an all-time great defense).

I said this on a Denver fan's stream but wouldn't it be weird if the Broncos go 2-15 and somehow draft Young, well Texans probably aren't winning more than one game. But then the Broncos have Wilson stuck as a backup.

Oh yeah forgot they have no first round picks. Welp they are stuck in cellar for a few years at least now.

Denver got fleeced.

Gave up too many picks and money for a QB who is playing like he’s washed up.

I actually think there is a chance that this will be viewed as one of the all time bad trades ever made in the NFL.

The Denver front office is probably in full blown panic. They do not have an out from that contract in the near future and no draft capital to improve the team on the cheap.

Hacket is also completely incompetent. We give Mike a hard time with his game management, but Hacket makes him seem like a tactical genius.

Wilson had like 3-4 great years, but in between, he has been a jag. He has 2 have a great team around him with decent coaching. Right now he has neither. Whats worse is he has really lost his stuff. It was evident last year as well. He isnt the same guy and hasnt been for some time. Seattle robbed Denver blind. Denver is asking him to carry a team and thats not what he is. They paid for elite and what they got was a game manager. Shame on them for not doing their due diligence. Right now he is an awful game manager at that. Lastly, the head coach stinks, he cant call situational plays. He is awful. Denver messed ^ when they decided 2 hire HIM instead of Quinn. Their loss is our gain. They gambled and lost. THE HC may not last the full year.

well said. We saw this last year in Seattle. Why in the world did they think he would be better? lol
Aren't you one of those that lecture others to respect the 'professionals'?

There were fans on this forum that said Wilson looked past his prime the last year he was with Seattle. I thought he did too, but I just thought it was due to coming off the injury. I thought he'd play well in Denver.

That said, I thought it was a mistake for Denver to give him a new contract before he had 1 year left on his current contract. That was stupid. He not only looks past his prime, he looks washed up. That pick in the endzone was brutal. Not only was it an ill advised throw, but a bad throw too.

did u pull that outta your butt? Either your trying to sound provocative or you made an honest mistake.

He completed 3 passes in the second half and OT last night after starting the game with 10 straight completions.

The Broncos have only given up 1 more point than Dallas, yet they're 2-4. He's not being asked to win shootouts.

How in the world did Denver watch Wilson over the last years and think he was their answer to get them a ring? Lmao. It's one thing to sign him to a big contract but they went further and gave up a ton of assets for a mediocre QB. They have been forever chasing that next franchise QB once Peyton retired and have came up empty every time. But this is the worst of them because of his contract and what they did to get him.

Even if I give them the benefit of the doubt on the trade, why the hell did they pay him that money? He still had 2-3 years left on his current contract. Like you implied, he hasn't looked all that good before he came to Denver. Let him play a year to see if the trade was a mistake before you make the second mistake.

What do you mean Wilson hasn't looked all that good before going to Denver? He has been near the top in most of the metrics used to evaluate the performances of a QB the last several seasons. I don't think he was worth what Denver traded to acquire him and it was dumb to up his salary since he had a current contract, but he has played very well the last several years. Also, I didn't think Denver was just one QB away from a Superbowl. They could have brought in any other QB people consider good and they would still have some deficiencies on that team that limit them from being a championship contender.
