Russian passenger jet reported missing in Indonesia

A new Russian passenger jet carrying 50 people has gone missing on a demonstration flight in Indonesia, after taking off from Jakarta.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 disappeared from radar screens 50 minutes into what was meant to be a brief flight.

An eyewitness reported seeing a low-flying plane flying towards a mountain but did not hear any explosion.

Aerial searches for the plane have been hampered by darkness and strong winds.

But rescuers have continued looking for the plane on the ground.

"We suspect the plane crashed, but we're not yet certain," rescue chief Marsdya Daryatmo told reporters several hours after the disappearance.

A rescue team found no survivors but several bodies on Thursday when it arrived at the wreckage of a Russian plane that crashed into an Indonesian mountain during an exhibition flight with 45 people on board.

Russia’s first all-new passenger jet since the fall of the Soviet Union, a Superjet 100 aircraft, went missing on Wednesday about 64 kilometres south of Jakarta.

Goofy country. On the one hand the Russians are good at chess and math which require logic, yet the Russians are prone (genetically?) to some crazy, illogical ideas. They seem smart but seem to lack common sense. And their social skills, on a whole, seem to leave a lot to be desired.

That reminds me of Russian Tanks I've looked at in Nellis AFB, NV. The base has an extensive collection of Russian Tanks and MIGs and those tanks were death traps. It had fuel tank right inside of the passenger compartment, lol.

And those MIGs, wow, I don't know how their pilots were able to sit on those uncomfortable seats and instruments were antiquated, even for it's era.

That reminds me of Russian Tanks I've looked at in Nellis AFB, NV. The base has an extensive collection of Russian Tanks and MIGs and those tanks were death traps. It had fuel tank right inside of the passenger compartment, lol.

And those MIGs, wow, I don't know how their pilots were able to sit on those uncomfortable seats and instruments were antiquated, even for it's era.

Their infantry transports, BMG's I think, had the fuel tanks mounted on the crew compartment doors. One .50 through the back door and you had yourself a nice Russian soldier bakery inside. One RPG and well, just get a backhoe to dig a hole for the burnt scraps you might find.

Soviet ** used solid state electronics well into the computer age as a tactical decision. Solid state survives an EMP nuclear blast, intact (proximity mitigating of course) and functional. Our birds would fall out of the sky.
