Wisconsin RB John Clay weighed 231 pounds at the Scouting Combine Friday.
Clay told reporters that he's shed 30 pounds recently "due to a better diet." Clay was listed at 248 pounds by Wisconsin and 255 by ESPN.com, so the weight loss is impressive. According to SI's Tony Pauline, Clay looked "svelte" while approaching the podium to speak to reporters at the Combine.

Colorado OT Nate Solder managed just 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press at the Combine.
Solder's total was one of the lowest among tackles. He's more of a pass-protecting athlete than complete product, so it's not surprising that Solder struggled a bit. Other bench press totals from top prospects: Mississippi State's Derek Sherrod - 23, Arkansas' DeMarcus Love - 27, USC's Tyron Smith - 29, Alabama's James Carpenter - 23, Florida State's Rodney Hudson - 27.

Kansas State RB Daniel Thomas will not run at the Combine due to lingering problems with his left hamstring.
The injury also kept him out of the Senior Bowl. That it's lingered deep into February is a growing concern. Thomas, who compared himself to "Larry Johnson in his prime" at the Combine on Friday, plans to run at K-State's March 15 Pro Day. He is Mike Mayock's No. 2 running back, behind Mark Ingram. Worth noting: Thomas measured 6-foot-0 and 230 pounds at Friday's weigh-in.

Jacquizz Rodgers - RB - Player Oregon State RB Jacquizz Rodgers measured 5-foot-5 and 7/8 at Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
He's really small. Meanwhile, Virginia Tech RB Ryan Williams measured in at a rocked-up 5'9/212, which should help him. He was listed at 5'10/202 as a Hokie. Rodgers is considered a third-down back type, but it's hard to imagine him consistently holding up in pass protection at his size.

The Lions will reportedly pass on cornerbacks at No. 13 overall if Nebraska CB Prince Amukamara is taken before they're on the board.
Beat writer Tom Kowalski reports this citing "guys I've talked to" at the Combine. The Lions are reportedly too concerned about Colorado CB Jimmy Smith's "off-the-field" question marks, "especially concerning work ethic" to draft him that high. Look for the Lions to draft a tackle or outside linebacker like Akeem Ayers if Amukamara and Patrick Peterson are gone.

Boston College OT Anthony Castonzo bench pressed 225 pounds 28 times at the Scouting Combine Friday.
Wisconsin's Gabe Carimi got one more rep. Castonzo is NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock's top-rated tackle prospect, although USC's Tyron Smith is rising fast. Castonzo still stands a good chance to be picked in the teens.

Gabe Carimi - T - Player Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi bench pressed 225 pounds 29 times at the Combine.
It's a terrific number for a tackle with over 35-inch arms. NFL teams have questions about Carimi's athleticism in evaluating him at left tackle, but he's got plenty of strength and length to be a day-one starter on the right side.

Florida State QB Christian Ponder revealed that he spent three hours under an MRI machine as part of his Combine medical check.
Ponder's numerous throwing arm surgeries are the biggest concern for his stock. He's stayed healthy since the Chick-fil-A Bowl, but is among the greatest injury risks in the draft. Ponder projects as a second-day prospect.

Alabama RB Mark Ingram measured 5-foot-9 1/8 and 215 pounds at Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
Illinois RB Mikel Leshoure measured 5-foot-11 5/8 inches and 227. Both players have bigger than 9-inch hands, which is something of a benchmark for running backs. Ingram is the consensus favorite to be the first back selected in April's draft. Leshoure needs to run well for a shot at the first round.

Washington QB Jake Locker sidestepped questions about the possibility of returning to baseball at the Combine Friday.
This sends up a bit of a red flag, as Angels GM Tony Reagins has expressed interest in getting Locker back on the baseball diamond. It's been speculated that Locker might play outfield in the Angels' minor league system if there's an NFL lockout. It's a risk teams are sure to be wary of when evaluating him.

Greg Little - WR - Player North Carolina WR Greg Little measured 6-foot-2 1/2 and 231 pounds at Friday's NFL Combine weigh-in.
Little missed all of last season like so many Tar Heel football players, but characterized himself as being "in the best shape of my life." He spent the year training with MMA fighters. A former running back, Little projects as a late second- to early third-day draft pick. His college career never really got off the ground before the year-ending suspension.

Alabama WR Julio Jones measured 6-foot-2 3/4 inches and 220 pounds at Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
He's got 9 3/4-inch hands, bigger than A.J. Green's. Jones checked in more than an inch shorter than his 6-foot-4 college listing, but he's certainly still an impressive specimen. According to the National Football Post, Jones exhibited a "strong" build "with good overall definition."

Auburn QB Cam Newton checked in at 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds during Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
According to NFP's Wes Bunting, Newton looked "physically imposing" and confirmed his "impressive" athletic build. He also has 9 7/8-inch hands. Meanwhile, Mizzou's Blaine Gabbert measured 6-foot-4 3/8 inches and 234 with 10-inch mitts. Arkansas' Ryan Mallett is nearly 6-foot-7 (6'6 3/4) and 253 pounds. The Razorbacks' all-time passing leader has ridiculous 10 3/4-inch hands.

A.J. Green - WR - Player Georgia WR A.J. Green measured 6-foot-3 1/2 inches and 211 pounds at Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
He was listed at 6'4/205 at Georgia. Green is still an impressive athletic specimen, and plans to do all drills in Indianapolis. We're tentatively expecting this year's consensus top receiver prospect to run a mid-4.4s forty time.

Tandon Doss - WR - Player Indiana WR Tandon Doss measured 6-foot-2 and 201 pounds at Friday's Scouting Combine weigh-in.
He's an inch smaller than his college listing, and looks "very average," according to NFP's Wes Bunting. Doss is skinny, so it's not the least bit surprising that his build wasn't overly impressive. After undergoing double groin surgery in January, Doss will look to impress in the forty this weekend.

Dion Lewis - RB - Player Pittsburgh RB Dion Lewis measured just 5-foot-6 1/2 inches and 193 pounds at Friday's NFL Combine weigh-in.
It's even smaller than expected. Couple the glaring lack of ideal size with Lewis' disappointing redshirt sophomore season, and you probably have a late-round prospect. We can't say we'd be shocked if Lewis went undrafted.

Ryan Mallett - QB - Player One longtime NFL personnel man tells John McClain of the Houston Chronicle that "every time he looks at Ryan Mallett he sees Ryan Leaf."
We've discussed the Mallett-Leaf comparisons before, and they're widespread in the NFL community as well as amongst fans. It's a stigma Mallett will try to overcome during the interview process. FOX Sports' Adam Caplan has predicted that Mallett could fall to the third round due to character concerns.

Stevan Ridley - RB - Player LSU RB Stevan Ridley received a second- to third-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Committee in January.
It's worth noting that NFL Network's Mike Mayock does not rank Ridley among the draft's top-five backs. Opinions seem to be mixed on the former LSU Tiger despite a breakout 2010 season. We've been impressed with Ridley's tackle-breaking ability and pad level, but he averaged only 4.64 yards per carry in his college career and was rarely used as a pass catcher.

I kinda liked Clay in the 250 range and thought he would be a great late round pick.
