Ryan Broyles (WR from OU) suffered a season ending injury and will undoubtably fall in the draft as a result. His production in college is unquestionable. He will probably will not be able to participate in the physical part of the combine.

If he were healthy, I think he would make an ideal "slot" receiver for the Cowboys. He would probably be much like Carter in that he would have a limited impact in 2012 because he will not be fully healed. But we might get really good bang for the buck on him if we select him, which will be much lower than it would have been pre injury. He would have undoubtably had a first round grade before the injury.

I looked at him yesterday. Another option is Marquis Maze out of Alabama, they seem to be similar but Maze's numbers don't jump out like Broyles. After doing some research on him, I realized that he had some red flags in terms of some off field problems that I was surpsied to hear about.

I think the Cowboys need to re-sign Robinson and maybe give Radway one more shot to be the #4 guy this year. With the emergence of Welker over the past couple of years, all teams are definitely looking for someone in that mold.

i agree with everything except that he would have been a 1st rounder, there is no way. he would have had a shot in the second, most likely a third. you don't draft WR in the 1st or 2nd to be a slot, if teams thought he could play outside as a legit 2 he might have been in the 2nd. as it stands right now he is 6th-undrafted but can improve after medical evals

If he's there for the Cowboys at 6, I'm screaming if they don't take him. He'll stock will rise once teams realize that he's healthy. He'll go in the 4th-5th.

One draft source has him listed as the 178th pick (5th round). Although he does not have blazing speed he always seems to get open, especially in critical situations and has great hands. He gets separation and would be an outstanding possession receiver, IMHO.

He reminds you a little bit of a Jerry Rice type of guy, more than Wes Welker, as he is not as sturdily built as Wes Welker, or Steve Smith (Panthers). I think he would be a steal, in the 4th or below.

I realize that sometimes college production doesn't equate to success on the pro level, but according to some statistics he is THE MOST prolific player in the HISTORY of college football. There is no way of knowing what round he would have been taken in, if healthy, but it is hard for me to fathom that he wouldn't have been a first rounder.

these are the only guys under 6' to be taken in round one since 1980, you will notice that(especially recently) most of the guys on that list make up for their height in speed and broyles doesn't have that. you also notice that many of the guys on the list have under preformed for the spot they were drafted in. again, there was no way he was going in the first and I didn't even hear talk of him being regarded as a first rounder before he was injured.

if he proves healthy in march he will go 4-5 range and if his rehab isn't as far along as teams would like he will go lower

What were Jerry Rice's measurables, and how did drafting him work out for the 49'ers?

Really depends on whether Robinson is back or not(I think he will be). If Robinson is back then the only way I take a WR if that person is also a prolific KR/PR guy.

Jerry Rice was 6'-2", which is taller than every guy on that list.

Broyles is good. I think he is better than other OU products who have entered the NFL over the last several years. He is more than a product of the system although that system is partially why is numbers are so prolific. I didn't see him as a 1st round talent before the injury. He will drop due to that injury. Dallas does not need to draft him unless he is the best player available and there are no other close options. I think there will be some good options available in every round for Dallas.

lol that kinda back fired on ya, yeah?:laugh2:

it's ok man, he is good, he may even end up one of the better WR of this class when all is said and done, but he wasn't going to be picked in round 1, and that is ok, plenty of good WRs that were 2nd round talent.

Broyles was a dynamic punt returner at OU. If he is healthy, I'd like to see him in Dallas. I've watched a lot of games in Norman, OK. over the years, and Broyles is one of the most electrifying players I've ever seen as a Sooner.

I was referring more to Rice's build and speed. Rice didn't have blazing speed, and was more slightly built than Welker or Steve Smith. I never really considered Rice's height to be much of an issue because his routes were so precise and crisp that he was usually "open".

It is true that OU WR's numbers are partially due to the system, but much like DeMarco Murry the year before .... OU was much less prolific on offense without Broyles.... They didn't look like the same team.

there is still a 4" and twenty pound difference between the two guys, which is huge when you are talking draft. this has nothing to do with broyles ability as it has been shown over and over that good routes produce separation but it comes down to measurable's and whether teams believe a guy can be an outside receiver or not. you yourself said he was best suited for the slot, and teams do not draft WRs high to be a slot guy. couple that with his measurable's and he wasn't going to be a 1st rounder unless some team believed he really is the next jerry rice and no body would drawn that line

Let me state it this way .... I personally believe that before his injury Broyles had first round talent. I said the same thing about DeMarco Murray when we drafted him. If Broyles heals fully, I fully expect him to pay dividends to the team that drafts him.

While I am an OU fan, that does not necessarily mean I cannot be objective about a player. For example, I see it being reported that we have interest in Jumelle Fleming .... at this point, I cannot express an informed opinion one way or the other on Fleming. I have seen him make some pretty good plays, but the OU secondary was a a weakness (in my eyes at least) this year. So, I would be less comfortable that Fleming would be an asset to the Cowboys than a player like Broyles, or Murray.

I think the thing that sets a player like Broyles, or Murray from a player like Dez, is consistency. I don't believe that a player like Robinson is nearly as physically gifted as Dez Bryant, but when Robinson scored touchdown after touchdown for us this year they didn't ask him what round he was drafted in or put a tape measure on him before they counted the touchdown as 6 points. A player like Broyles brings consistent production every play of every game, and that is why Robinson got opportunities to score. He got open AND he had Romo's trust, so Romo was looking for him, especially on critical plays.
