Dont make me search for the thread I started on him back before TC.

Cant find it now but in it I posted a few tidbits that you may not have known.

He played some Fullback for Duke as well and we have practiced him some at this position.

He was the highest paid (signing bonus) undrafted free agent (rookie) in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.

He had the highest number of reps of all rookies in the benchpress event at the combine his rookie year.

I think the guy has great potential. He and Bradie manning the inside next year sounds good to me.

I remember you posting this information .......looks like you hit the nail on the head.......I hope he keeps improving.

Did anyone go through the game and watch him. some analysis would be good.

I watched him his entire 4 years at Duke. The guy personifies the term "team leader", was a co-captain, played through numerous injuries, always made key stops when he was near the point of attack. Played for a moribund program, however, and was also a great student. Yes, he was a FB as well early in his career.
He could be the sleeper the Cowboys need in the 3-4. Definitely a Parcells guy.

I like him, too... I think he's quite a bit more physical than Shanle, and his college credentials are a lot more impressive. He just played for an under-the-radar football school.

But, Parcells did say again yesterday that they were going to have to address that position sometime in the future. He added that he meant because we didn't have enough players there, but I have a feeling he knows neither Shanle nor Fowler are the long-term answer there. Fowler could provide some good depth for us, though.

I like this guy - don't get me wrong. Parcells definitely likes him, too. The Giants tried to sign him off our practice squad last year, so Parcells stepped up and signed him to the active roster. Fowler is 6'3", 250 lbs., tough and physical against the run. There is a reason, however, that he wasn't drafted. He is not very fast for a 250 pounder, and is not skilled at dropping back into pass coverage. At this point, he is not a complete linebacker. The Boys will probably be looking for another ILB in the first 4 rounds of the draft next year - someone who is an every down player. But I think Fowler is here to stay - a good special teamer, a tough guy, a leader, and good against the run.

If he's getting playing time from Shanle he has to be good.

Sounds like a good project. Still may need another ilb, but sounds like Fowler has potential. Didnt see the game though. the bench press part was interesting.

agree with this... but I would add he doesn't change directions very well at all but seems to be heady enough to put himself into position to make a play...you know who this guy reminds me of most is Bill Bates...there isn't much in measurables but he seems to find a way to get it done despite his limitations

Nice thing is, if there's a problem with the guy give his wifey a call and she'll straighten him out.

I was bragging about him all day Saturday. I thought he was very good against the run. Understandably, he hasn't completely developed, and he isn't a finished product. It looks to me like he struggles a little bit defending the pass, but for how he was acquired, he's off to a nice start.

When I think of the Cowboys LBs, I think that they are set at 6 out of the eight positions:

1. Bradie James is coming into his own and should be a good player for years to come on the inside.

2. DeMarcus Ware has the potential to develop into a force on the outside.

3 and 4. Fowler and Shanle provide superb depth in the middle, with Shanle's value coming primarily as a nickle backer and Fowler being more a two down run stopper type.

5. Fujita is a borderline starter, but I would prefer to see him in a top backup/special teams demon type role.

6. Burnett is the x-factor. Can he start next season? Where will it be, on the inside or on the the outiside? Personally, I see him more as an outside backer.

That leaves two spots to be filled (assuming Singleton is let go). Personally, I envisage Burnett bulking up a bit in the offseason in order to be more of a force at the point of attack and sliding in as a starter on the strong side. That would leave Dallas with two needs at LB: a) another starter in the middle and b) a backup on the outside.

I am personally a big fan of D'Qwell Jackson out of Maryland. I am a big ACC football fan, and let me tell you Jackson is a force on the college level. He is a big kid (6'1'', 240) with fine athleticism that should translate well to the pros. He also has played his whole carrer in a 3-4 so the transition should be smooth. He should be available in the 2nd round. We could then sign a solid vet near the minimum (Singeton?) to fill out the corps. The Cowboys linebackers would then look like so:

WOLB: Demarcus Ware (6'4'', 255), Al Singleton (6'2'', 240)
WILB: D'Qwell Jackson (6'1'', 240), Scott Shanle (6'2'', 240)
SILB: Bradie James (6'2'', 245), Ryan Fowler (6'3'', 250)
SOLB: Kevin Burnett (6'2'', 250 - after bulking up), Scott Fujita (6'5'', 250)

A talented young group that I would be pleased to field.

I mentioned this in another thread but don't forget Thornton

Didn't see the game cause we got the Tampa game down here in Florida. Remember Fowler well and his wife telling him to get out there and play and he did well enough then to make the team. Media & others including Parcells got a laugh out of it. I think we set with Ware at OLB & James ILB, but other ILB & OLB up for grabs. What happens at other 2 positions will depend on how Parcells sees Burnett progressing. Parcells did make one comment several weeks ago, something about Burnett inside and next year... We certainly need add another LB but I think Parcells wants an OLB with some experience cause he concerned we too young in LB core. Will be interesting to see who we have at LB during TC. Along with Ware, James & Burnett, I do expect to see Fowler, Fujita & Shanle there along with 1-2 more guys not yet determined. Also don't forget Thorton will be back, he was Ware's backup before going on IR.
