OXNARD, Calif. – Ben Bass is the latest member of the Cowboys’ injury-depleted defensive line to go down, hurting his ankle Friday.
The second-year end from Texas A&M suffered the injury toward the end of practice. After being attended to by trainers, he walked off the field under his own power but did not return.
Dallas has already lost defensive ends Anthony Spencer (knee) and Tyrone Crawford (Achilles tendon). Both had successful surgeries Thursday in Dallas, coach Jason Garrett said Friday.
A starter, Spencer will return to camp and is expected to miss two to four weeks. Crawford, a backup, will remain in Dallas and is out for the season.
On a positive note, starting left guard Nate Livings practiced for the first time since camp started a week ago.
“It was a little boo boo,” Livings said of the foot injury that sidelined him. “They were being cautious.”
Starting right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau is expected to begin practicing for the first time
next week after suffering a hamstring injury during the conditioning test last week.
Garrett said several other injured players could be back next week, including tight end James Hanna (hamstring) and guard Ron Leary (calf).
Backup right tackle Jermey Parnell (hamstring) probably needs another week, Garrett said.
