IRVING – Talk of Tony Romo is everywhere after his epic roller-coaster performance in Sunday’s 51-48 loss to the Denver Broncos rekindled the talk about whether the talented passer has what it takes to win a championship.
Romo passed for a team-record 506 yards with five touchdowns, but his interception with 1:57 left paved the way for the Broncos to kick the winning chip-shot field goal as time expired.
Since then, TV, radio and the Internet have exploded with Tony Talk. So how will Romo manage under such an intense glare?
Jason Garrett said it’s simple
“You don’t turn on the radio and you don’t turn on the TV,” the coach said. “It’s as simple as that. You watch movies.”
Teammates who have seen Romo survive tough times before are confident he’ll bounce back
just fine when the Cowboys host the Commanders on Sunday night in a crucial NFC East matchup.
“He doesn’t care what nobody else says,” receiver Dez Bryant said. “As long as he knows that we got his back, that’s the only thing that matters. The performance that he had (Sunday), it was outstanding. I think that’s probably one of the best games that he’s ever played. All he can do and all we can do is get better, from that performance.
“In my eyes, Romo’s a fighter. I don’t think no quarterback in the NFL takes as much criticism as he takes. And he still goes out there and acts like he hasn’t heard anything. I know he hears it but he doesn’t let it get to him. He goes out there and performs the best way he possibly can. And we’re going to forever back him for it.”
