IRVING – The Cowboys will have two players in the Pro Bowl: wide receiver Dez Bryant and left tackle Tyron Smith.
Both are first-time selections.
Tight end Jason Witten and defensive end DeMarcus Ware had their streaks snapped at eight and seven, respectively.
In his fourth season, Bryant leads the team with 85 receptions for 1,134 yards and 12 TDs. In his third season, Smith is one of only four offensive tackles who have given up fewer than two sacks in 13 or more starts, according to Pro Football Focus.
“He’s done a really good job for us,” coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s a heck of a run blocker, he’s a heck of a pass protector and he plays a really important position. We are really fortunate to have him.”
The Cowboys drafted Smith ninth overall out of Southern Cal in 2011. After playing right tackle as a rookie, he slid over to the left side to protect Tony Romo’s blindside in 2012.
“We felt great about him since minute one when he showed up on campus,” Garrett said. “He’s a heck of a player and he’s going to be for a long, long time.”
