Former Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner said Monday he will instruct his current New England Patriots teammates to target two injured Seattle standouts in Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIX.

Speaking with ESPN’s Josina Anderson in an interview published Monday, Browner was asked about the toughness his former Legion of Boom mates displayed in their NFC Championship win over the Green Bay Packers. Browner responded by saying that while he still considers Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas friends, he’d have no problem targeting Sherman’s injured elbow or Thomas’ injured shoulder.
“Those dudes are tough,” Browner said. “Watching the game, you can see Sherman was holding that arm like he had a sling on it. But at the end of the day, this is about the Super Bowl. I’m going to tell my teammates: ‘Go hit that elbow, go hit that shoulder. Hit it, try to break it if you can.’
“You’re going to be my best friend after the game,” Browner continued, “but at the end of he day, I know you want the Super Bowl just as bad as I do.”
Sherman practiced all last week after suffering a painful elbow injury versus the Packers, while Thomas sat out last week after reportedly dislocating his shoulder.
Browner was a Pro Bowler for the Seahawks in 2011, spending three seasons with Seattle after playing four years with the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders following a college career at Oregon State. He played in just eight games in 2013, dealing with injury issues and an NFL drug suspension, and was forced to miss the Hawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII victory last February as part of a settlement with the NFL regarding his suspension.
He told Anderson that watching the Seahawks’ 43-8 win over the Denver Broncos was one of the toughest things he ever had to deal with — and that though he had family over to watch the game, he ended up watching it by himself.
“Oh, it sucked,” Browner said. “It was the worst feeling ever, watching those guys. I could hear my family cheering for my teammates. That was tough for me because I wanted to be the one that they were cheering for, give them something special.”
In the interview Monday, Browner revealed that he didn’t feel like part of last year’s Super Bowl-winning squad and felt slighted when President Obama didn’t mention his name as a member of the Legion of Boom when the team celebrated at the White House in May.
Browner also said that a glance from head coach Pete Carroll calmed him down after Obama’s omission.
“That was what pretty much I needed to kind of settle me. As long as my coach understands how much (those) guys meant to me, than I’m good,” Browner said. “But at the same time, I made a promise to myself to get back here to shake the president’s hand and let him know who I am a little bit.”
