IRVING – The Cowboys spent training camp and the preseason raving about rookie center Travis Frederick. But after two games, it’s clear he’s still trying to find his footing as a pro.

Frederick struggled mightily at times to contain Chiefs defensive tackle Dontari Poe in Sunday’s 17-16 loss. Poe recorded two critical sacks, including one in the red zone in the third quarter that forced the Cowboys to settle for a field goal.

Coach Jason Garrett basically blamed Frederick for both sacks.

“He was responsible definitely for one,” Garrett said Monday. “He physically got beat on the one, and the other one there was a miscommunication between him and the guard. Ultimately, he’s responsible for making sure that communication is right. One was more physical, the other was more communication and a mental error.”

Owner Jerry Jones pointed to Poe as a big reason why the Cowboys struggled offensively at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Kansas City’s got a good a good defensive front,” Jones told Dallas’ KRLD-FM on Tuesday. “This Poe, we all got familiar with him. He was the talk of the combine two years ago. He’s a handful. And he did give us fits inside. Hopefully, there won’t be many (defensive tackles like) Poe around the corner.”
