SAN ANTONIO – With the addition of Scott Linehan to his staff, Jason Garrett can now lean on the advice of three assistants with NFL head coaching experience.
In addition to Linehan, the Cowboys also have former NFL head coaches Bill Callahan and Rod Marinelli. According to DallasCowboys.com, the three have a combined record of 38-81 and none of have winning career records, although Callahan is 17-18 with a trip to the Super Bowl on his resume.
Linehan will serve as the Cowboys’ passing game coordinator and play-caller. In seven of his 11 full seasons as a coordinator or head coach with the Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions, he has had a top-10 ranked offense, according to ESPNDallas.com.
“He’s been one of the really good coordinators in the league for a long time,” Garrett told the web site. “He’s got a lot of experience, a lot of exposure doing this at the collegiate level and the NFL level. His track record speaks for itself. He’s presided over a lot of really good offenses in this league. He and I worked together in Miami for a year (in 2005), so I know him and I know him well. Philosophically I feel like we’re very similar in how we approach things. I learned a great deal from him, excited to have him on board.”
