SAN ANTONIO – Cowboys coach Jason Garrett termed the news that the club will play a regular season game next season in London “pretty exciting.”
Dallas will face Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium at a date to be determined. The club played preseason games at Wembley in 1986 and 1993, when Garrett was a backup quarterback.
“Obviously, the NFL is trying to get a presence over there,” Garrett said Wednesday at a news conference in Irving. “I think that’s great for everybody.
“We did play a preseason game there many years ago. It was a very memorable game…So fond memories of Wembley Stadium.”
The Cowboys tied the Detroit Lions 13-13 in the London in 1993.
Garrett said he will seek advice from other coaches who have played in London during the regular season for tips on how to handle the experience.
“I’ve been involved in a lot of preseason games where we played in Mexico or England or Toronto or Japan and all those things, but again, those were preseason games,” he said. “I think you have to ask the teams that have been over there, and we’ll do that. Ask the teams that have been over there for the regular-season games how they prepared, the logistics of things.
“I know some teams go over early, some teams go over later. We will try to work through all of those logistics to give ourselves a chance to play our best.”
